I found another article that describes what happened more in depth. It also has a picture of the father. What really gets me is the mother is defending the father. She said her husband is an angel who loved his children very much. No he is not! He is an evil POS! I do not have a problem with him jumping in front of the train as he had unbearable depression. The problem is trying to take his daughter with him. That in not love, it is pure evil. Shame on the mother too!
Keep in mind she is dealing with a couple of tragedies, so what she repeated to a reporter on the worst day of her life probably shouldn't be taken too seriously.

I'm so glad that young girl is safe. A true miracle she survived.
If you are going to commit suicide, fine, then do it where no one else is hurt or killed.
Do it where no one is going to have to clean up a mess inside, or be traumatized for life for being an operator of a vehicle that you chose to end your life with.

Note of warning for the paragraph below: kind of gruesome... this may not be easy to read for some.
A friend of ours put a shotgun to his head inside my father in law's house in the bedroom that he rented. The poor woman friend who found him said she'll never get that image out of her mind. We had to call in professionals to clean. Had he stepped out the back door of the house and walked 20 feet, he would have been in a forested area and although there still would have been a clean up, there wouldn't have been human remains all over the bed, walls and floor.
I'm sorry, but what a selfish SOB! If somebody wants to end his/her life, just do it. Don't take an innocent person with you. That poor little girl will be traumatized for a long time. Thank goodness for the man who pulled her out from under.
Also don't off yourself by using someone else to do it. I know some railroaders and the ones that will talk about it say you never get over hitting someone on the tracks no matter if it is an accident or a suicide by train. That railroad crew will be effed for life, too.
I feel so bad for that little girl, too. There is likely years of therapy in her future
