Today is October 1st, 2019, and James Earl Carter Jr, the 39th President of the United States, turns 95 years old.
He's lived longer than any President in our history, so is obviously the first to make it to age 95.
In 2012, Carter passed Herbert Hoover as the longest retired former POTUS.
On October 19th, 2019....eighteen days from now...Carter and his wife Rosalynn will became the former President and former First lady who have been married the longest.
Barbara Bush died on April 17th, 2018. She and George were married on January 6th, 1945. On the day that she died, they had been married for 73 years, 3 months, and 11 days.
Jimmy and Rosalynn were married on July 7th, 1946....so on October 19th, 2019, Jimmy and Rosalynn will have been married for 73 years, 3 months, and 12 days.
Being elected President may have put his name in the political history books, but he has conducted his life in an admirable manner before, during and after that event and should be honored for the whole life of service, not just one title. One of only a couple of "public figures" I would be excited to meet. Happy Birthday Sir!
I was a kid when he was President. Don't remember much except gas lines and the Iranian hostage crisis. Thankfully he was retired by Reagan because he was a fantastic ex-President.
The severe gas lines were due to the 1973 oil crisis and started in October 1973, when the members of OAPEC (consisting of the Arab members of OPEC, plus Egypt, Syria and Tunisia) proclaimed an oil embargo.
The long gas lines of 1973-1974 were under Nixon and Ford.
Richard Nixon (Republican) served as President January 20, 1969 – August 9, 1974
Gerald Ford (Republican) served as President August 9, 1974 – January 20, 1977
Jimmy Carter (Democrat) served as President January 20, 1977 – January 20, 1981
