16 years for rigging a homecoming court? You have to be kidding me.
I really don't understand the hype with homecoming events, and I could have cared less about them. Homecoming really isn't the same as a general election. Perhaps less than two years behind bars would be better along with one hefty fine.
No one was sentenced to 16 years, nor will they be. 16 years is just the max possible sentence for the crimes they've been charged with. Only a repeat offender with a long record would get that max. The daughter will probably get probation, mom 6 months and community service or something like that.
It's not 16 years for rigging the homecoming court. It's 16 years for hacking the school's student information system and accessing hundreds of private records.
True. But even for that it seems a bit excessive in my opinion. The very fact that what they did carries a potential 16 year sentence is a bit insane to me.
This woman, a vice principal at a grade school, had district wide access to ALL STUDENT records. Which she tampered with.
You don't think it's criminal enough that she tampered with almost 300 student votes? And this particular incident wasn't the only tampering she did. Through an investigation, it was found that she'd been accessing these records at home and on her cell phone since August of 2019. (My guess would be that she was tampering with her daughter's grades, making them look better than they were...but that's just a guess.)
Assuming they're found guilty...mom definitely deserves some jail time.
Yes, she does. And the school district needs much better internet security.
Life in prison for tampering with homecoming votes? Yeah, OK.
Homecoming in the deep south is serious business. Right up there with Prom Queen. Higher than head cheerleader and next to captain of the football team.
Seriously I think sarcasm went right over your head.
Prosecutors love to mention the maximum possible penalty, to scare the defendant into a plea deal.
yes, i hate that. terrify people that you will ruin their entire lives just to make themselves feel powerful and get satisfaction from scaring people.
