Bicycle riding can be fun, but mandated by some government? NFW.... and to insist on this attitude in an automotive forum well.....

Wouldn't a picture of a bicycle and a jar of vaseline fulfill the bicycle fetish just as well?
you've got to much free time on your hands, mate. WAY to much free time........

Back to central topic now............

Yup.....

In all seriousness.... I used to live in upstate NY in the country and loved biking, it was quiet, peaceful and very relaxing. When I moved to NYC it was anything but.. I just don't like the attitude that anyone or any organization would mandate my riding a bicycle....

~smile~ try going anywhere on a bike in South Texas......

Tis been fun yanking your chain TW.....

I don't think anyone here talked about mandating you riding a bicycle. So you biked on roads in Upstate NY? No accidents? Didn't feel like you were in danger of death at times.

Upstate NY is where I really got into cycling for both transportation and recreation. Mmm. Yea for steep hills, snow, ice, mostly friendly drivers and some great countryside.

I have no idea what South Texas is like.

It's also not terribly comfortable biking to work with your suitcase and showing up with sweat stains all over your dress clothes, particularly if you have to wear a blazer or jacket. For people dealing with wild weather conditions like snow/blizzards, rain storms, 100+ degree heat, etc, biking to work/school is just not going to happen.
get a large messenger bag from seagull or reload and carry your things in a comfortable manner instead of in a backoack. also, ride in cycling gear and change before work. simple solutions really.
