For those of you saying 5 years for the doc is too much - it was assault with a deadly weapon or attempted murder IMO. 5 years is a light sentence to me.
Don't you hate it when they stand on a corner or at a crosswalk, with no intention of crossing?
They just stand there and make us yeild.
You must live in California. On the east coast, they have to actually be IN the crosswalk to even consider yielding to them. In a major city, in the crosswalk and difficult to maneuver around. In NYC, only if there's a cop around. In Philadelphia, not even then.
I've actually had a jogger run straight into me, so maybe pedestrians as a common enemy DOES make sense...
I often wonder why drivers and cyclists don't gang up on our common enemy, the dreaded pedestrian!

Hahaha that would never happen here. There is no yielding.
When im crossing I hurry up so the cars can make their right turns..
For riding in traffic....i try to avoid it, but around here the sidewalks are kind of bumpy so if the traffic seems light I will ride on the street.
One thing I find an issue with using sidewalks for biking is the joggers, not pedestrians. I do that "on your left" thing and also have a horn (not bell), but these joggers are all plugged-in to their ear buds and can't hear me so I slow down and go around them on the grass....

Well, not in the CITY of Dayton. It IS illegal to ride on the sidewalk there.
However, the suburb I live in encourages cyclists to share the sidewalks with pedestrians instead of riding on the very busy suburban highways. They have certain routes outlined where they suggest you use the sidewalk as an alternative to the street.

Four lane (well, five if you count the turning lane/median) highways with sidewalks (these are not limited access mind you, surface street highways). They recently repaved the sidewalks on one stretch (but not the street!).
