Sports hernia
Is it possible to get a sports hernia from riding a bicycle? My left groin area including the family jewels has been sore for about a week and my lower abdomen feels numb at times. When I work out I feel good but later I feel light pain and numbness. I have been doing hard interval training on my bike trainer twice a week for more than a month and long Sunday road rides in preparation for cyclo cross season. This sucks. Your thoughts??

See a doc. You can also google search for "how to do a hernia self examination" if you're afraid of doctors (Seriously)

Can't see a doctor. No medical insurance and I'm broke/poor. I'll just tough it out.
-Cheers.

A hernia means that a muscle has torn in your groin, and your intestines are actually falling down out of place into your testicles. You can't digest food without your intestines. If you don't treat it, it can result in what's called a "strangulated hernia" which means your intestine becomes blocked, and you could die. You can't "tough out" a hernia like any muscle strain, they have to physically push the intestine back, and repair the muscle wall.
Go to any ER and tell them you don't have insurance. They have to treat you by law.

Stay off the bike until this issues is solved and/or treated.
A "strangulated hernia" means the tissue will die leaving you with gangrenous tissue inside your body on your way to a horrible death.

I went to the doctor today. He checked me out (maybe a little more than what I wanted if you know what I mean) and he determined it wasn't a hernia. He recommended I also change out my saddle for one that doesn't hurt my jewels. There are many out there in the market that have been designed with the help of doctors to eliminate pressure on the jewels. Cobb is one company. Cobb Cycling

Glad it's not a hernia.
My husband uses a saddle with a cutout in the middle that's supposed to be easier on the jewels. Sometimes the saddle angle can be an issue too.
And I wish I'd seen the original post earlier, if you are able to have a bowel movement, then it's not a strangulated hernia. (My daughter was born with inguinal hernias, she didn't have surgery for them until 3 months, so we learned what the warning signs were.) My friend's husband had a hernia, it made his testicles look abnormally large, like he had a balloon in his shorts. He lived with it for more than a year because he didn't have insurance, then it got too large to put on his work pants, and he had it repaired.

I pray that you speak true in your post about visiting a doctor about your problem. If not you're risking your life.
