Every hobbyist has a junk box, and bike handlers (at least, those who know better) are no exception. How long did it take for you to accumulate a stash of spare parts, salvaged components and other equipment that is sufficient to allow you to build and experiment on new projects without repeated trips to the hardware shop or big orders? How long did it take after your first bike teardown to the point you had a well stocked junk box?

I've been riding and racing for just over 20 years now so my junk box has sort of grown to "junk wall in garage" stage. Give me a bare full-suspension frame and I could probably turn it into a fully functioning, rideable mountain bike within a few hours, without having to hit Amazon or Mr. Cooper's place.

JUNK BOX TERMS OF SERVICE
1. If your junk box is full, get a bigger one or start another.
2. Never clean out a junk box.
3. Never throw anything in a junk box away; you will need it tomorrow.
4. Always accept donations, even if apparently nonfunctioning or unrideable - it will contain a part you will need later.
5. What appears as spent garbage to a consumer rider could be treasure to a mechanic rider.
6. You will find the very component you need to fix that bike the day after you break it down for scrap.
