I was browsing neighborhoods in the 75080 area of Richardson using this crime map: Richardson Crime Mapping, and I was alarmed at how many crimes have been committed in the past year concerning burglary and vandalism. For those that live in this area, do you agree with this? I check with another crime map: Richardson Crime Map - Showing Crime in Richardson, TX - Crime Statistics - Crime Alerts - Crime Stops Here, and it shows it to be even worse. For the vandalism, what is typically considered to be vandalism in this area? For those that live in this zip code, do you feel safe? Everyone seems to speak so highly of this area, so I'm just not sure what to think!

I don't live in that zip. I am on the other side of Coit. But that crime map doesn't look bad to me. Crime happens everywhere.

I've lived in Canyon Creek for a couple of years now and I've always felt safe. Never really heard of anything happening like what this map shows. But like the poster above said, crime happens everywhere. There's no place that you can go to completely avoid it.

We had some break-ins last year and a car had its wheels stolen last week (yes, the wheels!) but there is almost nowhere you can go where crime doesn't happen. The police here are very responsive and you should have an alarm anyway...and you should not park your car on the street. Mine is in the garage and my guests park on my driveway. I'd rather shuffle cars than have them park on the street.

There has been an upswing in residential burglary in Richardson over the past 9 months or so. Most of the thieves that have been caught have been from Dallas or (to a lesser extent) Garland.

The other day I left the house for several hours with my back door unlocked and my house keys dangling from the lock. Nothing happened. Nothing usually would. Of course I would not advise people to leave their houses unlocked and I almost never do, but this area is not crime-infested. If it was, someone would have strolled into my house while I was away.

Thank you so much to all who responded, and the accounts of those living there is very helpful. I'm thinking that maybe that SpotCrime website isn't so accurate - too many inconsistencies it seems. Richardson seems like a really nice place to live, and I love all the "Leave it to Beaver" looking neighborhoods around the Heights Park area - love that they are affordable too - and diverse. Neighborhood Scout also reports some alarming statistics, Richardson crime rates and statistics - Neighborhood Scout, but I'm guessing this is due more to petty theft types of crime, as this report shows violent crimes to be much lower than average but property crime is only slightly below average. I've always heard Richardson to be low on violent crime. Both are bad of course, but I care more about a low violent crime rate than a low property crime rate.

Our neighborhood association here in Heights Park keeps us up to date on crime in the neighborhood; I have gotten 3 "crime watch" e-mails since moving here in July. That is about the same as my parents' much wealthier neighborhood in Dallas. Crime happens everywhere. You just have to have common sense; lock your doors, etc.

^ Heights Park sounds like such a wonderful place to live and so beautiful too - I especially love the curvy streets on the west side. Thank you for your neighborhood crime info - that is a big help. I realize that crime happens everywhere - even in the safest of areas, but I also know it's worse in some areas than others, and that's what I'm trying to figure out here. It just gets confusing when you're presented with conflicting information. Hearing from the actual people that live there is great, so thanks again.
