We built a house a hour northeast of Dallas several years ago in what had been a pasture - guess we put it in a major infested scorpian neighborhood because we fought them for the first 3-4 years. They would crawl on the ceilings and fall on the carpet and furniture and on US, especially in bed....we were all bitten several times. When we ran water outside and it would go down in a crevice sometimes 20-40 scorpions would come floating out. We asked a consultant at Texas A&M how to deal with them - they sent us a brochure that says that if you hit one with a brick it will usually die. Very helpful, huh. We eventually won the battle, tho, and after a while we'd only see a few a year. They bite and they hurt but they are not poison. The house we live in now (also in the middle of a pasture and not far from the first house) has been here about 15 years....we've lived in it 5 yrs and I've never seen a scorpion. I guess they eventually decide people are not good neighbors and move on down the road.

I have only ever seen them in Austin and San Antonio, never in DFW.
