I'm pretty new to the Dallas area and am having my mom and sister into town. We wanted to have a night where we stayed at a hotel and went out to dinner/drinks. Not knowing the area very well, I'd like any recommendations for nice hotels that have good restaurants and maybe something neat in the area. We really don't want to do taxis or driving. Open to any area-Addison, Uptown, Downtown...anywhere really. Thanks in advance.

Downtown: The Joule Hotel w Charlie Palmer restaurant

Uptown: Zaza Hotel w Dragonfly restaurant
Ritz Carlton Hotel w Fearing's restaurant
Hotel Crescent Court w Nobu, Palomino, Arcodoro-Pomodoro, & Capital Grille restaurants in the Crescent complex
Stoneleigh Hotel w Bolla restaurant

Victory Park area:
W Hotel with Craft restaurant & Ghostbar

Turtle Creek area:
Mansion on Turtle Creek w Mansion restaurant

SMU/ Park Cities area: Hotel Palomar with Central 214 restaurant

All of these hotels have bars- Ritz, Mansion, & Zaza have the best bar scenes.

I'd pick the Zaza, as its in a great location and usually priced pretty decently.

Slight modification of the OP:

Can anyone recommend hotels in Dallas in good neighborhoods that are within walking distance to a number of bars? Dive bars are best ... pubs, too. Not interested in sports bars, nightclubs, etc. Don't want to have to worry about driving back or getting cabs. Thanks!

Any of the uptown hotels mentioned are walkable to many bars and restaurants but not really dive bars. Crescent, Ritz, Zaza

The Stoneleigh P bar is literally across the street from the Stoneleigh Hotel, among the coolest hotels in Dallas, at Maple and Wolf Street. Stoneleigh P isn't really a dive bar, it's a bit of a real estate high roller's place for lunch. However, it's a little rough and old looking. Ask for Moe.

Edit from nice areas/hotels you'd have to Uber-it to Lee Harvey's (south of downtown) or The Amsterdam Bar (Fair Park) or either The Velvet Elvis or ten feet away The Step Up Lounge at Marsh and Walnut Hill - in broad daylight I've seen people passed out on the floor at both over the years - there really is a crushed velvet couch in The VE. Great fun. All that said Ships Lounge (I think it's still open) on lower Greenville is a real dive bar that's also a lot of fun in a creepy sort of way.

It's a bummer - Ships is still closed.
Also consider - Doublewide, Singlewide, Windmill, there's a new place where Cedar Social used to be, Grapevine, The Goat and a new place in Expo Park from the Ten Bells people (has Bells in its name)
