Hi, I will be moving to Dallas at the end of July and have a question about traffic.

I will be working in the south part of Farmers Branch and have found a lot of places that I would like to live in, but most of them are in North Dallas/Dallas. For example, I've found a couple of places in the Junius Heights area.

I would be working from 10:30/11:30 AM to 6:30/7:30 PM. I am trying to get a feel for what the traffic would be like and what the best route might be.

If the traffic is horrendous, I would love any recommendations on better areas (traffic-wise) that have older homes/apartments.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Traffic is always bad, and it really doesn't matter where you live (sorry!). I've always found the very worst to be on I-35 headed South from Lewisville into Dallas, Loop 820 (Ft. Worth), I-20, Highway 360 (Arlington/Six Flags area), any traffic around the DFW Airport, 635E or W, the tollroad, George Bush...etc.

In other words, all the major highways. :P

But at the times you're planning on working, the commute won't be horrific. You should google traffic and Dallas, and see what comes up on a typical day on those traffic Hotspots. You could actually log on during the week, and get a feel for where its ugliest. And then try to find a place close enough to where you want to be, and close enough to work. If you really want to avoid traffic, try to live on a Dallas bus or DART rail route.

probably your morning won't be too bad at all unless there is road construction going on
but coming back at that time is going to be more busy
probably not as bad as earlier rush hour but still busy

check out surface roads--coming back those might be a better choice if you know how to work it--
some of them are 3/3 lanes and move pretty quickly
but seems like dallas always has work going on that can constrict lanes--even at night at times

Farmer's Branch to North Dallas (north of Northwest Hwy) is 10-20 min MAX, no highways needed.

Avoid 635-LBJ at all costs. That thing is jammed 24 hours a day, especially between Midway & Greenville.

Junius Heights to Farmer's Branch would be closer to 30 minutes, still not bad. You'd cut over to 75, 75 north to Northwest Highway, NW HWy to Tollroad (or Midway or Inwood as alt non-highway routes).

By 7pm, Rush Hour is waaay over (99.5% of days). Tollroad from Legacy in Plano to Wycliff in Dallas/Oak Lawn takes 25-35 min in rush hour (ie, if I leave office between 5-6pm). The same drive takes 17 minutes at 7pm or later. Same thing mid-morning.

This guy has one of the best work schedules ever!!
