I'm thinking of buying a vacant lot in South Dallas or a small house in West Dallas. I'm excited about the Trinity River Project and would love to live in this area when the development is complete. It's about 15 miles away from my work. Do you think this is a good idea? Anything I should be wary of? Thanks.

it is a great idea

if you want a small lot you will get to maintain forever as others throw tons of trash on it and the city gets you on their "vacant lot" list so they can go back to the well again and again and cite your property for weeds and trash

and if you really think that any major Trinity river project is going to get done before you are in a retirement home (unless maybe you are 18) then you will probably ignore this advice and buy the lot anyway

and if the Trinity river project does get done no one in dallas will be able to afford to build a house on a lot because everyone will be broke or moved to the suburbs to avoid the Trinity river special tax levy to cover all the cost overruns and corruption

there is a reason all those vacant lots are all over south dallas

lol, I agree with TexasVines, don't do it! South Dallas is NOT an investment, unless you are a slumlord.

It will pay off but you will be long gone when that day comes.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not going forward with this idea. I'm glad I asked before jumping in. You've shown me a point of view that I was having trouble finding for myself. Instead, I'm going to save up to buy a lot near a lake and build a cabin. I'll take my time with this. Hopefully, it'll be a better idea. Thanks again.

when you choose your lake -- separate out the ones being used for electricity production via dams and ones that are water storage for Dallas or FTW

I would buy lot on one for electricity but might be very leery of buying one where water is being shunted into two large metroplexes--that water might over time get lower and lower--
