The whole process was remarkably easy. I found a great place right next to Glenco Park in the M Streets by Mockingbird Station. I have already met quite a few new friends. Dallas people seem to be pretty friendly. I'm from New Orleans where anyone will talk to anyone.

It's only been a short time, but I'm happy to share my thoughts on what it's like to live in this city, or how I went about finding a place. I know I always see threads similar to that.

Thanks to everyone who contributes to this site and helped make Dallas my new home. Please feel free to share favorite shops, restaurants, nightlife, etc. I've only been here a little over a week but I've already gone out in Deep Ellum, Downtown, Uptown, Lower Greenville, and even Addison. New Orleanians can sniff out a good time anywhere.

James

Welcome to Dallas. I know quite a few people who moved here from the Cresent City. The only true way to know the city is to explore the city.

Welcome!!
Great area for talking to your neighbors, getting out and about, etc. My husband is from N.O. - he can always find something to do.

All Good in Deep Ellum on Main at Walton is great for 3 meals and some live music on some nights.

Izmir on Greenville near McCommas for Med eats. I usually get it to go from the deli.

We Are 1976 if you need a gift for anyone - on Henderson near McMillan.

@pepper: Thanks for the suggestions. All 3 of those look like places I'm really interested in going to.

@Lakewooder: Now THATS what I'm talking about! I'm definitely gonna swing by and see how their gator tails are and try a catfish po-boy. I'm getting hungry right now just thinking about it.

Welcome to Big D!

In addition to the places you've mentioned, don't forget about all the bars/restaurants that have popped up along Henderson Avenue like Barcadia, which has lots of retro video games as well as hula hoops and giant Jenga (Barcadia Dallas | 1917 N Henderson Avenue Dallas TX 75206 | 214.821.7300), J. Black's Feel Good Lounge out of Austin (J.Black's), Park (Park | Restaurant & Bar), Capitol Pub (Capitol Pub :: 2401 N. Henderson, Dallas Texas 75206 :: neighborhood pub), and Hacienda on Henderson (Hacienda on Henderson | 2326 N Henderson Ave | Dallas, TX | 214.515.9990 | TEX-MEX Restaurant and Tequila Bar).

Heading across the Trinity, there's also the Bishop Arts District in Oak Cliff that you should check out

Thanks for the info. I drove by Barcadia recently and I'm pretty sure the entire population of Dallas was crammed in there. Looks like a really fun place. Thanks for the other suggestions too.

FYI, all of the food at Barcadia is half price on Monday's. It's very good too.
