I grew-up in Chattanooga, TN (about 2 hours from ATL). Husband and I had lived in Dallas for @ 6 years when I took a temporary job in ATL.
I absolutely hated ATL and could not get the job completed fast enough.
Lazy workforce... only do the minimum to get by. Traffic is horrible no matter the time of day or night. Alot of the population I was dealing with have some serious racial issues.
Dallas over ATL hands down!

Grew up in Dallas, (Dallas Proper) lived in Atlanta the last seven years. For people concerned with raising a family I would pick Dallas hands down, in general-better schools, less traffic, no income tax, a transit system that works and is getting bigger and better each year, less perceived crime IMO, a state and city that work together, better economy, and a great shopping, restaurant and sports city. For active singles/couples my pick would be Atlanta. Diverse night scene, there's something ALWAYS going on, great restaurants and shopping (although phipps and lenox can't hold a candle to Galleria and Northpark) easy to get around b/c everything is on peachtree. Some of the best beaches on the east coast are all within 5 hours. Great mountain and biking trails, great history and a beautiful city within a canopy of trees. Yes Dallas has trees, and tree-lined streets(Park Cities) but nothing like the tall pine tree across Atlanta and the southeast. So I would say enjoy your twenties in Atlanta, and when it's time to get serious and raise a family move to Dallas.

When I used to go to Atlanta a few years ago it was hell getting anywhere on Peachtree. The traffic was terrible and lousy with 'cruisers'. Westheimer in Houston also used to be that way..
Has that changed?

Yes it has changed Lakewooder. The city has done a so-so job with the traffic, it is still horrible, but the congestion on peachtree has subsided. Most of the party-goers and clubs have moved a couple of blocks off peachtree and some in the burbs. When I first got to Atlanta peachtree street on friday and sat. nights was literally a parking lot. That use to be the best and worst thing about the city, the best b/c everything was on peachtree so it was easy to get to without getting lost, all the great shopping, restaurants, museums, theaters, business district and historic homes are on or around peachtree, but the worst b/c everyone was trying to get to someplace on peachtree, but moving some of these clubs out and or converting them to restaurants or highrises and the police really cracking down on cruisers has helped a great deal. Sometimes I wish dallas had a signature street, but I guess there are mini-streets most notably preston road. I'll be in Dallas soon and I want to check out the victory park/dt, park lane dallas development areas to see how things have come along.

I live in Atlanta and was recently in Dallas. I have never seen two cities seem so much alike. The big differences between the two is the noticeable investment Dallas has put into expanding its infrastructure. the arts, rail, parks, etc. Another thing really caught my groups attention was a much larger police presence. Also, you hardly saw any homeless and street people compared to what you see in Atlanta on a daily basis. I was very impressed with home much better the city of Dallas seems to have a handle on improving the quality of life. In Atlanta the only thing that anyone can do is argue about what should be done instead of actually being proactive.

I have to agree 100 percent with you!!! I was born and raise in atlanta for 20 years. Ive gotten the chance to travel all over the country and I would choose Dallas anyday because the people there are more friendlier than Atlanta! They are plenty of crazy people in Atlanta and thats for all races. I have enjoyed myself everytime I was in Dallas compared to Atlanta! Dallas has more land to where you can spread out to other cities like Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano, and many others where as Atlanta has everything crammed in with miserable people...
