This year it has been Cabo in Mexico and the Carolina coast. I was thinking an Italy vacation next year. Minniemouse just confirmed it

Us Dallasites only hit the Texas Gulf for short trips. For long REAL vacations it could be anywhere in the world.

Default North Padre Island -- National Seashore

At least once in your life, do some beach camping. Go to Corpus Christi and keep going East. The highway turns to road and the road turns down the sand and beach, and you can just keep going down the seacoast up to something like 50 miles.

Stop anywhere along there. We take the 4WD pickup or Jeep and a tent. Back in college days, used to take a Hobie Cat and launch it right off the beach and go wave jumping until we would break something and hope to make it back to shore.

The area is totally natural -- including no water, no electricity -- so no toilets. Take a shovel and **** behind the dunes. So take everything you want with you. Took the kids (4 y.o. and 2 y.o.) down there in April camped a night, and had a great time, playing with birds and crabs.

Used to take surf cast fishing poles and catch our breakfast, lunch and dinner. Now momma and the kids are veggies -- so I am most of the time, too. But you can cook over an open campfire and enjoy the stars.

I saw when I was at Love Field the other day that they are now offering discounted trips to San Diego out of Love. I'd put that on your list of beach destinations to visit as well if you looking for an affordable vacation other than the Yucatan, Gulf Coast or Florida.

Went to Gulf Shores one year for a week with friends (they had a timeshare condo on the beach) Before we went ..I said to myself "Oh great Alabama beach...whatever" I was shocked how beautiful it was. Niiiice sand!! (this coming from someone who grew up in San Diego (La Jolla).

Oh, I LOVE San Diego and used to live there and the beaches are gorgeous, but the water is C-O-L-D. The Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic waters are warmer and you can actually swim in them.
