Questions about Dallas Schools

A few weeks ago this man I barely know told me he went to school in DISD in the south sector and he said that he was picked on every day because he was white. He had parents who loved living in the city, very liberal and felt that you should champion where you live and use the public schools.
He felt he paid the price for his parents attitude and got beat up quite a bit, his lunch money stolen and was told to his face that he was the oppressor. I don't know about many of the schools in DISD but from what I have gathered there are schools that are diverse and more accepting than others. No school or ISD is going to be
perfect, it is just a matter of you finding out which schools tend to be the best as far as safety, good leadership by the adults, educational wise and diversity. I believe it is great to have diversity in a school but what is also equally important is as you pointed, acceptance amongst peers no matter what color your skin is. I do believe you can find that here, it is just a matter of you investigating that out.

You ask re diversity in SF. I work in SF and am thinking of Tx due to a job offer. It is correct ath SF schools are mostly troubled...but that depends on economics.. if you are well off, and live in the right neighborhood, your kids might go to Lowell, which is one of the finest high schools in teh country. Otherwise, anyone with means is IMHO crazy to live in SF with kids -- its a busy city, like manhattan, compressed into about 3 square miles. People who work there live in the surrounding cities which are varied with lots of character and different price points. the tops school districts are in Palo Alto, hillsborough and San Ramon, but there are pleant of fine schools all over, including Walnut Creek, any where on the peninsula, Fremont, Los Gatos, etc. etc.

Dversity is a nice concept, however it depends on which ethnicity. We have strong populations of all Asian groups, however, I think if I were black I woudl feel out of place here. Check out GreatSchools.net and compare the racial diversity in the schools.
