I've heard great things about Southlake, however looking a the map, it appears to butt right up to one of the nation's busiest airports. That would seem like a pretty big nuisance.

I've known a few folks to live in Southlake and no one has every commented on or complained about noise from air traffic.

Funny how that works....if not for that 'nations busiest airport' the property value in Southlake wouldn't be through the roof, and no-one would even want to live there.

As it is, Southlake may be the jewel of Tarrant county.

Rarely do I hear airplanes over Southlake. Try Irving. That's where the airport is.

the flight paths for DFW usually come in over north part of Southlake-north of 114 and some of the south part---the west of Southlake (really more Westlake) and most stuff south of 1709 is pretty plane-free....Grapevine N gets the flight noise as well---
there are some very expensive homes (think 1 mil and up) that are being built under the flight paths--people just don't care that much I guess---they want to live in Southlake and that is where the available land is...

I live in Bedford--just about 15 min drive from DFW on west side and there is very little flight noise unless they are having to come in a different way because of weather....

More Southlake people/area info likely on Fort Worth board--it is in Tarrant co....

I like hearing that since we will be (hopefully) closing on a home we've just bought off of Central Dr. in Bedford on the 15th of July. We sold our Fort Worth home very fast, too fast actually, and are now enjoying life in the Extended Stay for a few weeks.....I use the term 'enjoying' very loosely.

Having lived almost my whole life minutes from what was Carswell AFB and now the Joint Reserve base, airplane noise over near the mid cities areas is a joke. What noise?

From Southlake to downtown Dallas--probably 45-60 min depending on time/traffic/weather and your route (where you start)...If you are N of 114 out by the lake traffic is slow because surface roads are two-lane for most part...
If you are S and W of 114, then getting through the Mixmaster is even more diffucult...

you would probably go through Grapevine and take 114 into 35/Stemmons and then 30/Landry into downtown proper---
Google says 32 min but that is wishful thinking or Sunday morning at 9 am...

I had a boss who lived in Southlake when I worked near SMU. He drove off rush hour times - super early or after 9 and left by 4 or waited until 6. That way his commute was only about 45-60 minutes.

that works for many Southlake residents because (let's face it) most of them are not the secretaries or lower ranks who open the office or punch a time clock...
