That's funny my daughter is about 5 years younger than the oldest and she's the adventurous one. He is into sports, she's into bugs (still at age 9!), camping, fishing and all that jazz.

We've had a place up at Lake Texoma since 1961 - it's huge, one of the largest man-made lakes in the country - but it's not just a big ditch - it's got cliffs, hills, great oak and cedar trees and even a chain of islands in the middle.

There used to be a lot of cabins (except for Ross Perot's gigantic place) but now those are being torn down for big homes. As FND suggested, Loe's is a great place to start...we are just to the west of there.

It's no longer owned by the Loes Family. They are all in jail now. It's just called Highport Marina these days.

I know but old habits die hard. Didn't Mr. Loe pass away? ..anyhow I know the Loes did wrong but I think the Corps of Engineers and Grayson County Commissioners are way more corrupt than anyone on the planet.

Boating, skiing, jet skis, and fishing are big here. Lavon is popular for fishing. Ray Hubbard is the big recreational boating lake. You'll see sail boat, motor boats, and pontoon boats on Ray Hubbard. Ray Hubbard gets choppy, noting too crazy. White Rock lake is pretty small, sometime people sailboat or kayak on White Rock. Ray Roberts has a beach.

I went to a YMCA camp at Possum Kingdom. It's pretty. I think it's west of Ft. Worth, not north of it.

I had read this thread this morning and saw most all lakes were covered. I came on tonight though because I remembered Possum Kingdom Lake. I am glad that 2 others have mentioned it. I have been out there and it is one of the most beautiful lakes I have been too. The scenery too is awesome just going out there. I went in December to see my oldest who was in camp there with her class. The weather was great that week too and I couldn't get over how different the terrain was than DFW proper. They say the West starts in Fort Worth, that trip truly made me agree with that saying. Just go and see for yourself. Possum Kingdom Lake is 75 miles west of Ft Worth.

Far North Dallas, that YMCA camp is where my child was at. What a wonderful place.
