Of the 3 institutions, UTD is the best academically. UNT, the best socially and UTA the best in terms of athletics and ease of admissions.

I attended UTD and my sister UNT, there are WORLDS apart in terms of the faculty and the student body, but both are acceptable. UTA (Arlington) is actually closer to FW.

surprised no one has mentioned UNTs parallels with Berkley or Juilliard.

UTD has nothing on that. UTD and UTA aren't flagships and just get yer done in da butt by UTaustin.
They have NO real identity on their own. Thats not to say UNT doesn't have issues. I wouldn't be honest if i didnt mention this part. But lets be real here UNT is its own and has more of an identity for good or bad.

Oh my bad Jabbit, yes UNT does have a great Fine Arts, music, in particular reputation...on the level of, or parallelled to Berkeley S of M, or Julliard, I think not, but certainly the best in Texas.

on the level of? Nah wasn't saying that. Yes thats able to be disputed easily. When i said "parallels" what I was referring to is that its the best in the south... which makes it like a berkeley or julliard of the south... easy.

And its no secret that the Berkeley jazzbos have sweated UNTs jazzbos in performances on many occasions.

Here we go again with the popular delusion that the educational product from UC Berkeley is somehow superior to the product at UNT.

The Berkeley campus may be well known for some things, but the quality of its undergraduate education is not measurable and hence is not a significant or knowable factor.

There is no way to prove scientifically that a particular student will learn Statistics 101 or Physics 101 better at UNT versus UTA or UTD (or UC Berkeley). In fact, you do not want to be in a class full of students preselected to be far above your intellectual level. The lectures and discussions would be way over your head and you would learn nothing. It's best to be in a classroom with students at your level.

Learning is what the student does, not what the college does. Make your choice based on convenience, accessibility, campus activities, things like that.

And yes, there are buses from downtown Dallas to the UNT campus, but of course you first have to get to downtown Dallas.

aceplace-- you obviously never went to UC Berkeley as to make such an uninformed and yes, stupid comment. Taking physics at Cal is the same at UTA and UTD?

Here is proof of your ignorance. I transfered from UT to Cal Berkeley. I noticed they didn't give me credit for some of my math, and I thought "what the hell - why don't I complain - it was a years' credits" I went into the office and made my arguments. The man said "Wait one minute" He then came out with the UT System freshman math book -damn the same edition I used - even the same red cover. ( I knew I was in trouble) He looked at me in the eye as he thumbed through it and said " For the University of California to give you credit for a math course, it has to be at a significantly higher level than what we teach at our high schools" I knew he was correct and I'm not sure I ever felt as humiliated.

Classes at Cal were significantly different - more difficult and Cal Students, many of which were from all over the world were sharp- the debates were great.

I noticed in this year's numbers Cal leads Harvard by 1% in having the highest percentage of students who were in the top 10% of their high school class (near 90%).

I love UNT -got an MPA there and while I chose it over UTA and UTD for academics- not one faculty member would say they compete with Cal. In the 2nd floor of my house I throw fastballs made of cloth- rubber past my 8 yr old daugther. She strikes out a majority of the time-- this doesn't mean I can pitch for the Dodgers.

I don't think jabbit refers to UC Berkeley. He means the Berklee College of Music. And yes, UNT holds its own in the company of Julliard and Berklee.
