Default Seven Points TX.

Considering relocating to Seven Points area. How often does it rain there.
I have pulled up average rain for the area and it is coming up at 40 inches per year. That seem like a whole lot of rainy days. I am now living on the Pacific coast and we get a lot of rain, but not no 40 inches per year. So I am curious about the rain fall. If some of the locals would give me some feed back on this it would be appricated.

I'd never heard of Seven Points, but I pulled it up on Google Maps and it appears to be about halfway between Dallas and Tyler, so you might try posting your question in the Dallas forum.

BTW, I'm in Houston, and 40 inches of rain would be a dry year for us. That's only three inches more than we got from a single storm, TS Allison, over the course of two days in 2001. We average about 50 inches per year, but unlike in the PNW where you get it spread over 280 drizzly days, we tend to get it in large amounts at a time.

About an hour southeast of Dallas, 40 minutes from Corsicana and Athens...hour and 20 minutes or so from Tyler...Not a bad cross section...

Seven Points is a small lake community, so I'd assume that most people have service-related businesses that are lake related. Cedar Creek Lake, last time I was out that way, was a very nice, popular lake. Nearby Richland-Chambers Creek Res. and Lake Athens take away some of the activity though. There's a couple of decent golf courses (with good rates) around the area from what I hear. If you don't have a lake-related business then you're probably driving to Athens, Corsicana, or Dallas for work...Athens (11k) and Corsicana (24k) are smaller cities and thus will have more blue collar than white collar jobs there. I guess Tyler is a possibility as well. There used to be a great little place for fried catfish called 'Catfish Corner' in the Seven Points area...at one time it was a very popular (and good) place. I grew up in Corsicana and my cousin had a place out on the lake near Seven Points at one time. A friend of my dad's used to race at a small drag strip there, which I assuming is long since gone. So I used to be very familiar with the area. I haven't been there in YEARS, so hopefully someone can post some current info. I can't tell you what the area's like now but I suspect it hasn't changed 'too much' over the years.

To your main question: I know this year, that area is getting a lot more rain recently than they're used to at this time of year. And like Shoo stated, that mostly comes in larger amounts at certain times of the year, as opposed to drizzly year round. Rainiest part of the year, I'd figure would be spring, where maybe half that total would come up and the driest would be summer, when you wouldn't see near as many rainy days as you do the rest of the year. This year is an exception with the summer floods though.

I personally love the Cedar Creek area and would love to live on the lake somewhere (close to family) and work in Dallas. But my specialty is stronger out on the east coast.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I am by no means an expert.

Seven Points, Texas is a quiet small lake town. It is also a poor town. Catfish Corner is still at the corner of Hwy 334 and Hwy 274 along with some other great places to eat - Yellow Rose Cafe, McClains (ugh!), El Jasilco(sp) and now a Sonic!!!! There is even a movie theather now-multiple screens!!!!!Seven Points is busy during weekends during Spring and Summer---lake traffic--- and dead in the Fall and gloomy in the Winter. We have been associated with Seven Points for over 14 years and lived there for a while, communting to Dallas to work each. You have to get up very early to get ahead of the traffic. Many people choose to live in the Cedar Creek Lake area and commute to Dallas, Grand Prairie, Arlington, Ft. Worth, Richardson and Plano....all for the quiet, small town atmostphere. If you have a place on the lake the drive is worth the while, but if you aren't on the lake I can not understand why you would even want to live in the Cedar Creek Lake area. Schools are less than desirable. There is a Super Walmart in Gun Barrel City which is across the lake from Seven Points (about 15 minutes away) that we call Neimans on the Lake--that's about it for shopping. Closest mall is Town East in Mesquite about 1 hour away. We still have a place down there and enjoy the lake with our boat- good fishing by the way, but we are glad to come home every Sunday to Dallas. Just depends on ones needs and wants.
