well i thought around UNT it looked creepy and the people were the most clickish and pretty rude to anybody that didn't fit well into that social criteria. And I am by no means an antisocial or a boring person.

It's very easy to find faults with Denton ... Lot's of old areas, many rundown looking neighborhoods, some people hate that slight hippie/eccentric/liberal feel, the locals can be somewhat territorial, roads haven't kept up with population and can be confusing at times .... BUT, I love the town. As some have said, it is truly one of the few areas of DFW that has ownership of a distinctly "different" feel/character. Lots of live music bars/clubs, good mix of regular chain restaurants and privately owned places, UNT offers concerts, events, exhibits, the square is a nice well lit area to go park and walk to a restaurant/bar, and the real estate/rental is reasonable.

Denton does have its "questionable" areas, but who hasn't lived somewhere that has an area(s) like that? I grew up the definition of modern suburbia ie ... Flower Mound (the only 70k pop area I've ever been without questionable areas) and would take Denton 10 out of 10 times over it ... granted, I'm single and 25

I live east of Denton by about 10 miles or so and really like it. It all depends on what you are looking for though. We like it because we could get a new house for less money and we are out away from dense population/traffic for now. Soon that won't be the case. Denton is an older community with varying social/economic classes. You can't compare it to Frisco, which is a much newer community and pretty limited economic class. If you only want to be around people like yourself, then Denton is not going to be your first choice.

As far as traffic is concerned, getting to I-35 from 380 ( Cooper Creek and Greenbelt) leaves much to be desired. They are working on loop 288 and will be for awhile. The only other option is a small two lane road called Mayhill. That road will not last long with the amount of traffic that it is seeing due to loop 288 being so congested. Keep in mind that they are currently working on a tollway/bridge over the lake connecting 720 to 35. That is supposed to be completed late 2008/early 2009 I believe. And that is where most of the housing is located anyway. There is really any housing along 380 until you reach Cross Roads around 380 and 720.

no actually i am pretty sure that everybody in Denton are pretty narrow minded only want to hang out with people who are exactly like themselves instead of diversity. I respect diversity, Denton doesn't. I am in Austin and it is a FAR better place with diversity

I've only been to Denton twice, but it seemed very poorly layed out street-wise, old, and not much personality.

The town square was neat in that there are lots of shops, the courthouse is neat, but other than that it seemed like any small town USA.

Denton is very poorly laid out, but for a town it's size the music scene alone significantly differentiates it from 9 out of 10 "small towns[s] USA" ... and artsy, comparing Denton to Austin in any respect is like saying Round Rock isn't like Dallas _(insert characteristic)_

Wrong. Just because Denton doesn't have ethnic diversity doens't mean it doesnt respect ethnic diversity. ....

Im encountering very openminded people in Denton and very friendly as well... and im hispanic. More friendly than people in Austin.

ive met a number of asians, hispanics, middle easterners, native africans and one french lady who all enjoy Denton.

Austin has its clicks too. In fact there are more of them.

u really read it wrong. its okay. it happens when u are looking for the wrong thing.

here im going to really break your response right here. 4 reasons why Denton IS NOT like any small town USA...

reason 1

reason 2

reason 3

reason 4

and thats just dealing with the music part.

go ahead and tell me again why Denton is like any other small town USA?

do all other small towns USA have these types of credentials? Cause if they do I must be missing something.

or for anyone who wants a smaller town with character. Get there quick..it is growing. If you have some money and want land Argyle is gorgeous..in Denton county. Agricultural exemptions make taxes el cheapo
