Until my lease ends on my Bedford apartment I will be commuting from Bedford to my new job in East Dallas near Park Lane and 75.

GPS/Mapquest tell me to take 121N to 635 to 75N and it would take 40 minutes.

Would this be the best way?

How long do you actually think it will take?

I need to be at work by 7:30 (but as early as 6:45 is fine too especially if it makes a big difference with the commute). What time would you suggest I leave?

Thanks. I'm still pretty new to the DFW area so your input is helpful.

That would take 40 minutes on a Sunday afternoon with no traffic. During peak rush hours, it could easily take 1.5+ hours...

You would actually take 75 south from 635. Agree that it's a brutal commute- I'd guess about 60 minutes? The stretch of 635 from Marsh to 75 could kill you it's soooo slow. You may try to exit Marsh, south to Royal, Royal to 75, 75 access road south to Park (about 1-2 miles). I can only think of 1 school zone on Royal vs Walnut Hill (closer to Park) which has several.

Another thought is to find a way to take Northwest Highway east to work (most traffic is going west to Las Colinas)....that would be 121 to 114 to Northwest Hwy.

Thanks. Your comments are incredibly helpful. I wish I had a helicopter. lol I will probably wind up paying for two apartments if it starts to get too much or if we start to have a tough winter. Hopefully leaving at 6am will ease things a little bit.

I looked into alternate routes with Northwest Highway

121N to 114 E to Northwest Highway East to Shady Brook Lane etc.

or 183E to 482 spur E to Northwest Highway

would be 183E to 35E to 75N be any better?

Thanks again.

When you test your commute, do try Royal instead of Northwest Hwy on some days - it tends to flow well with less traffic.

Okay..I will definitely try it out.

I suppose the plus side of commuting is I will get to know the highways and street roads better.

FYI 121 and 114 are under construction for a bit of time now so I would try to get an alternate route. Even going 183 to 360 to 30 might be better given all of the construction going on in that neck of the woods lately.

By that, I'm guessing you mean 183 to 35, through downtown via Woodall Rogers, and then back north on 75? Oh, heck no!!! Same with the poster who recommended something to 30, through downtown Dallas and north on 75. Disasterous. Now that could take nearly 2 hours on a bad day!

The Northwest Highway and Royal Lane routes are the best - and most direct- anyone had mentioned.

I have taken Royal from the backside of the Nokia on 114 all the way to the east side of Dallas and it moved very well.

I agree - Royal or NW Highway - avoid LBJ at all costs.
