I couldn't disagree more. Due to the fully boxed frontage roads around high five (the only intersection in the Metroplex with this) the drive out of the Wyndham Hotel at the northwest side of the high five is both direct, and shockingly peaceful as you're all alone on the bottom level of the interchange. No backtracking. I can't imagine any hotel along 75 in Richardson coming close to the convienence. Definitely avoid the hotel just north of Gallatin. Renaissance Richardson Hotel I think. Way overpriced. Ok for conventions and such but for a regular stay there are tons of better choices.

My friend comes in from Houston and stays at the Wyndham at High Five for $33-$37 a night through priceline. He even did that during Hurricane Rita. Probably the cheapest hotel room in town at the time.

I just happen to drive by the Motel 6 and Comfort Suites in Plano dropping off my son in West Plano. They are near each other. Both look nice. That West Plano area is a nice area. Safe. Clean. Don't know what they are like inside, but location and exterior are okay. It's an easy area to navigate.

Default Update: Hotel Report

We ended up staying at the Radisson Hotel in Richardson. We booked the hotel as part of a travel website package (hotel+plane tickets+car rental). The hotel location was good, close to 75 and close to west Richardson, where we were looking for rental houses. The hotel itself completely satisfied my "princess tendencies": The room was clean and odorless. All the rooms include a sleep number bed. The bathroom was small but clean. Before we stayed there, I talked to the building maintenance man, who said the hotel is now non-smoking, but the 9th floor used to be a smoking floor, so it might smell a bit. (We stayed on the 6th floor.)

The only possible negatives were the lack of a view--the window was small, did not stretch the span of the room, and our room faced north, not south--and the maid service. It took until late afternoon for them to get to our room every day, which was really not a big deal for us, but I guess it might annoy some people. The maids were very thorough when they finally cleaned the room.

Thanks to everyone who offered their tips and recommendations!
