The title says it all......... this year I have an easy job, no traveling and the celebration is not at my house. So all I have to do is bring tamales, chips and my homemade desserts.

Who has the best chips (other than Via Real restaurant, and they don't sell them) ???

I promise I won't ask about salsa; I make my own.

Go to any El Fenix restaurant. Their chips are unique and the best, period. And the restaurants sell large bags to take home. Get some of their salsa too, as it's better than most.

Second that. Their salsa is good, but no doubt, if you you want the best chips for your party tonight, EF has got it going on!

3rd to El Fenix. They have THE BEST chips around.

My second fave is La Duni. But even El Fenix has them beat by a long country mile in the chips department. They have them in bags by the front checkout counter to buy. Grab some good chewy pralines while you are there.

Wow, who woulda thought El Fenix......and there's actually one here in Irving. Never been there b/c its near the mall -- a very scary place --- but I'll drag DH there for a meal tomorrow night and get chips.
Will also pick up some at Central Market where I'll get vegetarian tamales.
Thanks everyone.

Just an FYI, while one would think that ALL El Fenix locations are equal, they are not. By far the BEST one is the one in Downtown Dallas. For some reason the food there just seems much better. No complaints on their other locations, just feels "different", if that makes sense .

Yes, El Fenix has THE BEST corn tortilla chips. They also have THE BEST corn tortillas. Whenever I'm making something that needs them (enchilada casserole) I always head to El Fenix to buy theirs. Theirs just seem fresher and stay soft without getting hard even after heating them up. Guess because their corn tortillas are sooooooooo good and are the best it makes their chips so good as well. Their chips are addicting.

Wednesday is Enchilada Dinner night at El Fenix. What is it now, $5.99?

Starting to really want some corn tortillas and chips and salsa now from El Fenix. LOL!!!

The Wednesday special is $4.99. But I remember that it was 69 cents when I was in high school. I used to bring home a bag of chips and hot sauce for the family when I would go there back then. Some local grocery stores used to sell the hot sauce (maybe they still do). When I was living the young singles scene in Big D in the early '70s, the special had gone up to 89 cents. And I probably ate there at least once a week. Down to a couple of times a month now. Tells you how dang old I am and how long El Fenix has been my favorite Tex-Mex place!

Does anyone remember the El Fenix Cafeteria? It was on Forest at Webb Chapel. Right down from Lusky's w/ the big horse out front over their door. LOVED the El Fenix Cafeteria. We ate at this one a lot or the one down by Bachman Lake.
