As long as you stay honest and consistent. Like I said, it doesn't really matter to me that you hold a belief - it's just such a silly way to lose credibility (being internally inconsistent I mean).

Okay, how did we go from me wanting to know more about Plano, to the women of Collin County not using birth control? Seriously?

Welcome to City-Data! If a thread reaches page three, it probably has nothing to do with the OP anymore.

But that's not what she said at all ... or is it? It's so hard to tell when to take what she says at face value vs those times that she says something, but doesn't really mean it. See ... there's that pesky credibility thing again.

Not to nitpick but if you use the DNT as the imaginary dividing line you'd be left with almost nothing on the west side. Most people would say that Coit or Preston would be a better road to use. But I don't think most people that live in Plano consciously drive around thinking that they're in West Plano, Central Plano or East Plano. The only time this comes into play, IMO, is when talking about feeder schools and high schools.

I dunno why you would pick Rowlett if the things you heard about Plano were bad. Seems strange. Did you work with a Realtor? Or drive around Plano at all? Anyways, Knox-Henderson is on 75 North of downtown and south of Highland Park. There's a single exit for it and if you go West you'll be on Knox and if you go East you'll be on Henderson. Here's a link to the general vicinity.

dallas, tx - Google Maps

In my opinion it's not worth the drive in from Rowlett on a regular basis but I guess if you want to explore the city you could check it out.
I work for the Police Department mainly in South Dallas. Alot of people told me Plano is for family types.Im single so I stayed away. Rowlett is the same but its close to the lake which I like. Plus I cant stand traffic ( I know I picked the wrong city if you dont like it) a least 30E isnt as bad as 75 going to and from work. Thanx for the advice I dont go downtown often but like to keep my options open. I didnt drive around Plano cuz it was too far just went off what I heard which isnt always right. Whats funny about Dallas is you can pick any town and their will be like a hundred people ready to rip on it and say dont go there. You kinda just gotta pick a town you like and not listen to anyone

Jimithing, if it has to do with Collin County Turtle Creek has alot of trouble saying anything positive at all, so you're wasting your time trying to speak with him about it. Kind of a Collin County troll so to speak. There's nothing wrong with Plano but it probably isn't necessarily a young persons paradise.

Living in Frisco, I hardly ever have a need to go to Dallas unless it's for ocassional visits to the DMA, symphony or Musicals. There is, in the end, plenty to do up here no matter what your age is. There's plenty of places that would be worse for a young person, you could live in Tyler or Lawton.

In the end, Plano is a great place to live. It's gained notoriety in the 80's and 90's as being a haven for white flight and wealth, that is where the negative stereotype is from. These days it is alot more diverse yet still safe and still middle to upper class income. For someone from Highland Park to criticize Plano for that is ludicrous. Btw, if there is to be a dividing line in Plano between east and west it is probably custer rd.

Steve 1282 has got a point. We all have different ideas of what we like. Since I've moved to Frisco I've found it to be a very nice place to live despite my progressive viewpoints on politics and religion. Many people think it is just short of satans creation. I didn't think I liked it that much before I moved here, but I happened to find a very nice neighborhood that had that house I loved so I gave it a shot despite the naysaying and it worked out very well. I hope none of you guys are moving here just based on this boards advice. It helps, but come check for yourself.

Btw Tex 2010, this happens frequently on this board, lol. It came down to who had the best beauticians on another thread about a similiar topic.

Here are some code words for this thread:

Sterile = not ghetto
No personality = I've never actually driven through the more established neighborhoods, and I'm still miffed that it's not ghetto
Prefer Allen = can't afford the land and type of house I want in Plano
Opinion from Austin = affronted by the idea that people might want to not live in a ghetto

If you like where you live, that's all that matters. There are all sorts of neat places all over the metroplex...explore and see them all! If your priorities include shaking your booty at a bar or nightclub every night, then you might want to look closer to downtown. I never cared for that after college...that probably should be the last time anyone goes to a nightclub, in my opinion.
A place can still be nice, but not overly sterile or ghetto looking. There is a median you know.

Plano IMO is OVERLY sterile to the point of looking & being fake.

All of the business signs are the same exact height & a certain distance from the road, the lawns are all manicured, nobody can run a business out of their home, etc. etc.

Compare this to nearby suburbs like Carrolton, or even McKinney, which has more character than Plano, imo, and feel less sterile. No personality? Plano has one. It's dress to impress, like you're rolling in dough ($), even if you're going to Target . Prefer Allen? Maybe people just like Allen better nowadays? They got a lot going on over there. Allen and Plano look almost no different though.

Basically.
Plano, Allen, & Frisco all look the exact same to me. Nothing to distinguish them apart from one another besides the city name on their water towers.
