I'll be in the DFW area Feb 7-8 for work, but thought I'd go on the 4th to enjoy a weekend there.

I'm not familiar with the area, but would like to stay in an area where I can easily walk to a variety of bars and restaurants safely at night. Is the downtown area on Main Street best for this? Or do you suggest another area?
I want a variety of places within walking distance of the hotel as I have no interest having to drive after having a few drinks.

Uptown, just north of downtown. You can stay at the Hotel Crescent Court, Zaza, The Ritz Carlton, The Stoneleigh, or there is a less expensive suites hotel on Harry Hines near Wolf Street (behind the Stoneleigh) if your budget is less than $250-300/night.

All of these are in walking distance from nightlife or have great bars/ nightclubs themselves. Zaza had the Dragonfly bar and the Ritz has the Rattlesnake bar- both are upscale and places to see & be seen. Ritz is more Dallas money; Zaza is more flashy/trendy. Across from the Stoneleigh is the Stoneleigh P, a great dive bar with good burgers. Tons of bars on McKinney Avenue running north from the Ritz. Idle Rich and Black Friar are fratty bars. The MAT is a great place to watch a game. Lotus is an upscale lounge with a good patio. Avanti is an Italian restaurant with live music and a good late night scene. A few blocks off McKinney are TABC, The Londoner, and the Nodding Donkey to the east. The Gingerman is a great beer bar with a good patio to the west. Lots of good restaurants in the area too!

What Turtle Creek said, he's right. Downtown is improving but it is still relatively dead, uptown would be much more lively. Uptown is basically just an extension of downtown btw, just outside the freeway loop of downtown, but it would be a long walk from the downtown hotels so see Turtle Creeks list above for places to stay.

You might not realize it, but that's Super Bowl Weekend. Hotels are going to be scarce that weekend and totally overpriced if there is any avail especially in the fun areas of Dallas and Fort Worth where many parties will be happening. Sorry.

Thanks for all the feedback.
I might look into the Fort Worth area also, as that's where I'll actually be working. I just assumed Dallas would be a busier place to stay. I like more casual places, I'm a non flashy white guy the prefers the discount drinks over the elite establishments. I lived in Hawaii a while and got used to the no dress code laid back way of bar hopping.

It's a short stay, just figure on dining, drinking and maybe grocery shopping. Any chance anyone knows of a large Asian grocery store?

Randy - check for a hotel before making firm plans. It is SuperBowl weekend - hotels will be booked and probably jacked-up rates and everything else will be crowded and expensive.

Yes, you will have a hard time finding a hotel that weekend in downtown Fort Worth. FW is hosting the AFC team, and ESPN will be broadcasting from Sundance Square all weekend. It is going to be a madhouse!! PLUS, this is the last weekend of the Fort Worth Stock Show, which is going to make it even more crowded! I would venture a guess that you will not find a hotel within 20 miles of downtown Fort Worth.

Honestly, if you want to see DFW, I would come for your meeting then stay afterwards. The Super Bowl crowds will be gone and hotels will be plentiful.
