Weird question, I know. I have grown up in Dallas and lived here all of my life except for a few years in college. I have spent most of my time in far north Dallas/Plano/Carrollton. I grew up in Garland, and a few years ago owned a home in Rowlett. I am looking for something different. A different lifestyle. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am a 30 year old woman, I am a teacher for Irving ISD (I don't want to live in Irving!), and I am not rich by any means. I currently rent an apartment in the West Plano/Carrollton area and have a good deal on it, but there are negatives to it and my lease is up in July.

I am social, I like to go out places and do things. I love to eat out, I go salsa dancing. Ideally I would love to live somewhere with more of an "urban" vibe and where I could walk some places (even if it's just a restaurant or two), since I've always been suburban. And pet friendly of course (I have two cats). But I don't know where I could afford it. Uptown is probably out of my price range and I'm not sure I would fit in there.

Suggestions? Thank you!

Deep Ellum, Downtown, North Oak Cliff (like near Bishop Arts District), & East Dallas are all good places to start that are less expensive than Uptown and not having a "pretentious" reputation. All of those areas are walkable, urban, filled with young people. Lots to do nearby at night & on weeeknds. East Dallas could get to be too long a commute depending on how far East you go, but the rest should all take about 15-25 minutes depending on where exactly in Irving you're going.
