Hi All,

Been looking at all the relo posts and most deal with families moving to the DFW area. My husband and I are moving to DFW from San Antonio, or more specifically rural Seguin area. We both worked in San Antonio and commute 100+ miles round trip each day. Now we want to be near our son who lives in Lewisville. We drove around the Lantana, Trophy Club, and The Colony areas and ruled out the The Colony. We have reservations about the Trophy Club also. What we are looking for is a golf community or a community within a short drive to golf courses. Would like newer construction say within the past 10 years and between 200K-400K. We do not have to be close to our son, I was referencing the 5 hour drive by that statement. We have had enough of living out in the sticks and want to be much closer to civilization. Also, would like to be in an area with mixed generations versus what I have deduced about Frisco and that being the Gen Y bunch. Thanks for all your help.

I think you would be very happy with Bridlewood in Flower Mound. It is a golf course community in its own right with multiple courses in Grapevine and an awesome golf course called Tour 18 just down the road. Very near Lewisville as well. The neighborhood is mostly made of up families in their 30s/40s and empty nesters.

Do you want a single family house with a yard? A garden home? A condo? Single story, 2-story? Las Colinas is not too far from Lewisville and has many golf courses and newish condos/townhouses. If you don't need to be concerned with schools it may be worth considering. You can look for zip codes 75039, 75063, parts of 75038 and parts of 75062 on real estate websites. There's a neighborhood with newish townhomes called Fairway Vista that would have selection in your price range and several condo/townhouse communities under construction near MacArthur and Royal Lane.

Thanks mSooner and Squirl for your quick responses. We want a single family home with some sort of a yard. I have been looking in the Flower Mound area on the web and some of the homes seem to fit our criteria. I was also wondering about Richardson or North Richland Hills area towards the FTW side. Any thoughts on these areas?

Hey--I grew up outside Seguin--graduate of what used to be TLC--
have been here more than 25 years and it is wonderful but would be 5 star if it had BBQ as good as City Market in Luling...
regarding golf courses--
there are some great public courses in the N. Tarrant area--don't think you will really be able to afford a newer house in your price point in private golf community unless you are moving further outside the Metroplex---

will PM a great MLS site to look at homes--

Are you interested in basically joining a club and playing primarily AT that course--say in a neighborhood like Bridlewood in Flower Mound or maybe the Keller course at Sky Creek Ranch
or do you want to play a variety of courses--and not be tied to one--

My husband has membership to Bear Creek on the DFW airport property--public course but members get better rates--
We lived in Bedford before we moved to Hurst a couple of years ago--it takes him about 15-20 min to get there early Sat or Sunday when there is almost no traffic--he is one of the first ones off--and because he is still working plays weekends only now--

Bear Creek is pretty good (not great course) but has elevation changes/trees/water and at times bobcats--he is good golfer--handicap under 10 from the long tees--
some courses in the area are pretty flat and not that challenging--some are difficult (and expensive)
so it depends on what you are looking for and your own skill level
the public courses in the area have senior days with reduced rates and there are usually groups of seniors who have some type of flight competition going--so weekday golf can be pretty crowded

NRHills is growing town--has new developments north of 820/along Hwy 26 and north along West Tarrant Parkway--has parks and is drawing young families into what was fairly stable/growing-older area--Bridville ISD is top rated local district so home values are pretty strong
no city course here but close to Sky Creek Ranch in Keller (right in middle of housing development/tight/relatively flat),
Iron Horse (also has houses along the course) which is technically in FTW but just south of 820 loop in NRHills area,
Texas Star (runs along creek/undeveloped land) in Euless, further out would be Bear Creek at DFW airport,
Tierra Vierde the top rated city course in Arlington but is in south part of town off 287 almost in Mansfield, and
there is course on the south 820 Loop off Randol Mill called Water Chase that is very good--was closed for years and now is part of McLean Golf Center I think--not many people have played it compared to other local courses so might not have much feedback on-line--
Grapevine Municipal course--runs along Lake Grapevine--always crowded but well-regarded
Cowboy Golf Course--upscale/lunch included/expensive--more flash than substance really
on west side of FTW there is what used to be the old Carswell AFB course == now called Hawks Creek--my husband really likes that--his company has started having its yearly golf tournament there==Hawks Creek also allows golfers to walk and pull cart--
