Hello everyone!

I just found out about this website, and I think it's great.

Well, my situations is this:

My family and I used to live in California, but we had to go to Mexico for some time, and now, we're going to move back to the US, but after some research, we think that our best option is to move to Texas, and we were thinking in moving to Dallas or surroundings.. but we need some advice about which are safe apartment areas, but not too expensive. Not looking for the cheapest, but something moderate. I've been looking at websites of apartments, some of them are nice, but well, in pictures everything is nice, right? We're looking also for something with a moving in plan, because always the first mont is the tough one, because we need to get a job and all that, so what do you think? What areas would you recomend?

Need WAY more info-->

What monthly rental rate do you consider "moderate"? To some it's $500/ mo and others it's $1500 or $2500.....

Do you need public schools? How old are your kids (if any)

What kind of work do you do? Where are those jobs in Dallas/ Fort Worth?

WHat kind of commute (in minutes) will you tolerate? Will you be driving or are your reliant on public transit?

Recommend you park yourself at an extended stay motel/hotel and get a job before you sign a lease. That will give you the time you need to get a lay of the land. Really inexpensive extended stay places are Crossland. Medium priced, Budget Inn.

Well, my motherate is $500

And about school, not really necesary. I'm actually the kid, and I'm 18, so I would be looking at Universities.

About the job, well we don't have nothing for sure. We've been living a long time here at Mexico, so we're going to look for a job.

And we won't be having a car for a while, so we'll rely on public transportation.

My dad is a Techer over here, he has a TKT certification by the University of Cambridge, and my brother has a degree in Mecatronics.

------------------

Also sounds very interesting the idea of a motel/hotel...

What are the prices in these ones?

Have you thought about San Antonio? They have less expensive housing and public transportation. For $500 a month you will have a real struggle finding a place in Dallas area that is served by convenient public transportation.

^^^^ This is very good advice. Dallas is a pretty expensive city if you need to live on a rail line.....or else you will find yourself in a pretty rough neighbhorhood.

Well, I just said $500 like a standard.

I have thought about San Antonio, but it's not really what we're looking for...
I really like the idea of the hotel though.

And what about other areas of North Texas? Irving, Fortworth,

A hotel is NOT a long-term solution. It is a 30-60 day solution until you find a permanent home.

You need to brush up on what North Texas cities have $500 apartments AND universities on the same rail lines......not many.

The thing is that I didn't consider the Hotel option...

When I said $500 dollar apartment, it was because with savings that we have, it was something we could afford until we found a job and get settled, but the Hotel idea is what we need.

I think that we can afford something a lot better, since we'll be 3 people working at the same time, so as I said, I just said $500 because with our savings, it was what we could afford.

So.. about Hotel/Motel... in what areas are they? I only know the cities thanks to Google maps, so I would appreciate the orientation ^^

How long could you afford that $500 a month place before the funds run out? It is not easy finding a job right now and with THREE of you needing to find a job..... not going to be easy. Not even for medicore jobs that pay min. wage.
