Oh even 'the oldies' talk about stuff like that -- we like to brag about how 'wild' we were! We had one teacher who was a drunk, and she was in her sixties (however her child had died). We had one kid jump out of the window. You can find those stories on the Woodrow Wilson Alumni Association Facebook page. There's also a Woodow 07 grad who posts on city-data at times, you probably know him but I won't out him. He is realistic but also positive about his experiences.

Some freak about people from what some would call 'the wrong side of the tracks' being there but later on most feel that was an asset (this is coming from interviews done by the alumni association). I think the survey you mentioned was only completed by half the students and there were different rankings - about 10% did not feel safe but the way the question was posed was 'sometimes' and that was around 40%. I can only think of two safety issues over the past 30 plus years - once a student was caught with a gun walking home to the Mount Auburn area and once a shot was fired in the park across the street. The first happened in the early 1990s and the second around 1987.

Default WW= Stay Away

Bella,
I also have a son in 11th grade and live in Lakewood. I would stay away from Woodrow and most of DISD.

If I am not mistaken, BellaO's kid is a 7 yr old. There are so many improvements working at Woodrow (and in DISD) right now - you cannot predict what the district will be like in 13 yrs or so when this current 7 yr old enters 9th grade.

Um....

7 + 13 = 20.

Hopefully this 7 year-old will enter 9th grade as a 14 year-old...in 7 years.

I do have a 7yr old, who hopefully will start high school in 9 years. I do also have a 16yr old, who most likely will go to privates for two years.

Nah just a case of holiday weekend brain! I get it too. :-) This morning I found myself literally walking in a circle in my kitchen because I couldn't remember why I'd gone in there.
