If your around $700K and your jobs ARE in Downtown Dallas??????
Then I'd stick w/ the Park Cities: Highland Park and University Park. Even some really nice areas of Lake Highlands and also Lakewood. All really close to downtown Dallas with super easy commutes, good schools, etc. No need to go further out than that IF the jobs are IN Downtown Dallas.

This makes no sense.

Mom, he was answering two different questions - not saying you could get much for 500k in Park Cities.

I agree...if their jobs are downtown and they have $700k to spend, they should look in Preston Hollow and closer to downtown in general.

The issue will be what my brother and his wife are dealing with - not necessarily wanting to send their kids to private school but not feeling like they have good public options down there.

Well, these questions were never answered. For all we know the OP's "Dallas" jobs could be in Lancaster, Irving, Legacy area of Plano, Richardson, etc.

It really is kind of hard to answer to give areas that would fit the OP's requirements without knowing these.

Looking at the comps showed us everything was selling over 90% of asking.
The inventory is hit or miss, a lot of stuff isn't updated, and what you can't get for the money was shocking to us. We really thought the economy downturn would help us, but it didn't.
I think the op can get more for their money going a little south of here - that will also make the commute better.

700k can offer nice options in 75093 for op since he asked for homes upto 25 year ... he didn't mention luxury or totally remodeled ... that would require million & up

Well, if someone finds a house for $500K that is 4000 sq ft, 25 years or newer and a pool with HPISD ........ LET ME KNOW! I'll buy it and flip it for a tiddy profit.

If I could have found it here in my neighborhood in Plano, *I* would have bought it!!!!!! We actually got into a 6 offer bidding war over a totally distressed property!! It was crazy!

Uh...where? Cuz like I said...I looked for 5 years. Please show me the magic house. Btw, most of the houses around here are 20+ years old.

Exactly! Double that....and then some!

The least expensive home on the market in the Park Cities right now that meets that criteria is 3015 Milton Ave (75205). A 1986 home listed at $975k.
