I want to buy now rather than renting to lock a good interest rate. I am planning to come to DFW for a look see trip before making a final choice. So far it seems that Highland Park is the best choice with West Plano/Coppell as close contenders with relatively lower price.

Here is a property that I found interesting ... what do you say? I will have plenty of left over money to fix things we do not like.

You forgot the link.

And no, Highland Park is NOT the best choice for what you are looking for- you'll need another $250k in your budget to find anything close to what you are looking for. Does HP have fabulous public schools? YES! Is it close to downtown? YES! What can you buy for $700k there? A Hovel! (Or a single-family-attached home).

There are no 4/4's in your budget (of any age) in HPISD.

If you're willing to look at 4/3's, check these listings out:
3425 Stanford Dallas, TX 75225
3451 Shenandoah Dallas, TX 75205
4404 Southwestern Dallas, TX 75225

This is a single family attached in your price range. You would basically buy 1/2 the structure and share a firewall with the other owner.
3483 McFarlin Dallas, TX 75205

3105 Royal Sydney CT Plano TX - Home For Sale and Real Estate Listing - MLS #11423449 - Realtor.com®
Just so you know, property of your link comes with LISD not PISD schools.

Here is a similar property with PISD Schools.

I have friends whose kids go to Homestead Elementary and Hebron High School and they are very happy with the educations their children are receiving.

If you're willing to look that far west in Plano, you might as well look in Austin Waters in Carrollton, and Castle Hills in Lewisville (where I live). But again, you would be better off renting and looking thoroughly before buying. Like my tagline says, just my 2 cents' worth.

Sorry Turtlecreek 80, I just added that link to my previous post.
This is a nice property Guru. I will check this out for sure. This is near my friend's house and his kid went to school with twins for 5 years before moving to DFW 2 years ago. My sons would like it very much to live near him.

park cities are awesome but you don not get much for 700k. coppell has a good location and within your price range but it is a bedroom community and looks really boring. west plano has a lot to offer from shopping to dinning and not a long commute if you can adjust your timing to get a good house in good area. dallas has some good pockets too and i read somewhere that some of dallas is served by pisd.

None of them, they are bedroom communities. If you want lively, go to the M Streets or Uptown.

Park Cities- cheapest 4/4 under 25yo is a $975k listing. $700k range would have them looking at single-family-attached homes. They'd be brand new, but you'd have a 8x10 "yard" and would share a firewall with your next door neighbor.

Preston Hollow- would not send a kid to Hillcrest HS, so you'd be looking at private schools ($15-$30k per year per child).

Lakewood- The only homes that fit the size/ age criteria are some of the new construction near Lakewood Elementary. Cheapest one on the market is priced at $850k.

Lake Highlands- Would not sink $700k into a LH area home. Could probably find what he is looking for in the $500-600k range, but something tells me he's looking for a more "new & shiny" looking burb.
Melshire Estates in 75230 is zoned to W.T. White, though.

2509 timber cove lane that plano guru suggested is actually better than pictures and it was posted for $674k when we looked but $649k is an awesome value ... do check it out if you are interested in this area because this this has all you asked for and more ... for 700k range you have a realistic list ... posters here want a lot more for a lot less dough.

I dunno, em...that's a bit close to Midway, isn't it? I wouldn't want to live right off a main road. That's probably why the price is so good.
