So my husband just got a job offer for down in Dallas... we are in Wichita, KS and not really sure what to do. We go down there a few times a year for his work and we stay in Irving. We LOVE Irving/Grapevine/Las Colinas area and are wanting to move there... we would be renting the first year or 2 so my question is.. how are schools in the area? crime? any info is appreciated! I'm so lost...

Well... technically no. I guess it would be North of Dallas? Main thing is we are looking for great schools, good neighborhoods and still a suburb type feeling. Wichita is ALOT different than the big ol city of Dallas

Grapevine is very nice, but a bit of a trek to commute -- tho lots of people do it and the schools are highly rated. Part of Irving (in zip 75063) is in the Coppell school district; also very highly rated. Las Colinas is mostly served by Irving schools which are very average and the students who attend public schools -- based on published stats -- are in a low income majority. We don't have much crime in Irving -- especially in Las Colinas which has a private security police force in addition to the Irving police. There are some nice private schools available, too.

Don't know your price...
but I would agree with Squirl... Las Colinas, Valley Ranch, or Coppell itself. would be a great start.

Also you might want to look at the far North Dallas area too.

Valley Ranch is where we would love to be. My son will be in 1st grade so great schools are important. Not sure how the rentals are in those areas...we will be renting first and would like a house. Pref under 2,000/mo. Driving around in those areas last week... I am not quite sure thats possible!
