I live in Grapevine, and when I go visit a friend in McKinney on a WEEKEND, I allow 1 HOUR for the drive! I cannot imagine making that commute on a daily basis in traffic.

McKinney and it's immediate surrounding area is a fine place to live.

those people probably had bought homes prior to taking job in McKinney--and in this market don't want to sell and maybe/likely take a loss

McKinney looks like it has many similarities to Grapevine--historic downtown area, strong community spirit--
I would look there initially--
OP makes no budget requirement so hopefull McKinney has what they are looking for

Well we are renting first. So we are looking for rentals anywhere from 1,100/mo to 1,800/mo. I do apologize for wrongly naming anything...you know we go down to Irving atleast 5 times a year for my husband's work...so we know the area of Grapevine and Las Colinas only. We have yet to drive around McKinney... or Plano or anything else. Please understand that where I'm from (Wichita, KS) is TOTALLY different from down there Our surrounding areas around the so called "metro" are way more spread out than down there. One thing I have noticed while down there last is how I can be in the Las Colinas area and it quickly changes to something else if I stay on MacArthur long enough. Here in Kansas...theres a little bit of trees/nature/bare-ness (haha) between the city and surrounding areas... but I guess I'm not in Kansas anymore

regarding rentals--
if you are refering renting house for 1100 a month that is not going to happen in any nicer area

it will take 1400+ depending on what you want

you need to check out a map and just look at what you are dealing with

there area areas of the Metroplex that have some open space and trees--just depends on where you are looking--McKinney itself probably has some open areas--I am just not that familiar with it because it is so far from where my normal living pattern in

driving south on MacArthur takes you into the heart of Irving--older part--Las Colinas while not new is considered the nicest part of Irving and in fact many people really think about it as separate entitiy--because it has more high end retail/residential/office space
Las Colinas was "master plan" type of development--still has space to build out and has totally different type of demographics than the part of Irving that is south of Irving Mall

Yeah I kind of figured I would have to spend over 1,400/mo on a rental to be where I want to be. I'm not sure if cost of living is much different down there than up here. It seems that you get a lot more house (rental that is) for the monthly price than what you would here. I can't believe some of the nice homes for rent and how inexpensive they are!
