Hello all,
My family will relocate to Dallas area in July. My job will be in Denton while my wife will be around Dallas/Irving.
We have two kids who are going to school. So we will need a place with good schools.
Our budget is 400K for the house.

At begining, we were looking at Flower Mound, but I heart gas drilling is a quite heated issue over there. Is the gas drilling a big issue? Actually, how deep will the gas drilling affect those involved cities?

Please give us any suggestions! Thanks a lot.

Flower Mound and Lewisville are really good cities. Highland Village is amazing if you can afford to live there.

Flower Mound is a good choice. Don't worry about the gas drilling, it's no big deal at all.

The schools are excellent in FM.

Don't worry about the gas drilling in Flower Mound.

If you're looking in Lewisville, look in the Castle Hills neighborhood. I live there and it is a good mid-point between Denton and Irving. You will find a lot of very nice houses in that price range.

Seems the residents in Flower Mount are strong agaist the gas drilling, but the city council still pass it. I heard the gas drilling will impact water, air, noise etc. Sound scaring for someone from other state.

Will Southlake have the similar gas drilling issue? Seems there are some 400s houses in Southlake.

Flower Mound has one of the strongest ordinances in the country and they are further strengthening it. You hear about them because they have a very vocal anti drilling crowd, although they have very less wells compared to other cities. They also have a strong Town Council having a majority of anti-drilling elected representatives. Currently there is a moratorium until the new ordinances are approved.
Most other cities with drilling don't oppose as much as Flower Mound residents although lately Southlake & Fort worth residents have started opposing. Its hyped , just to give an example -Fort Worth have minimum setbacks of 200 ft with 1500+ gas wells some of them operating since late nineties. Flower Mound has a 1000 ft setback with 50+ gas well and the new ordinances have proposed 1500 ft. Flower Mound doesn't permit injection wells unlike other cities which means that you cannot dump waste water. Texas and DFW in general have a bad ozone and in constant fight with the EPA over air quality. FM has a 24 Hr Auto GC air monitoring system with online results and enforced monthly air quality testing from independent labs. You can contact the Town to get more information if you have any questions.

Ditto. It would be a great commute for both of you. The gas drilling really got hyped during the "mayorial" (is that even a word?) race--it just really got wrapped up in politics.

How many gas well in Flower Mound now? and how many are under planing?
And how many of them in Southlake?
For Southlake, will the social pressure be very high?

did you not read the responses--
there will be no future wells in Southlake and I don't think because the city turned down the variance requests that XTO wanted that they will drill the ones they could have drilled w/o the variance requests

Social pressure will be as high as you let it get to you
