Travel time from Rockwall to Downtown Dallas--also, good burbs to search
My family and I are moving to the Dallas area for a new job. I will be working in downtown. We have kids, so our #1 concern is school quality.
Someone told me about Rockwall--looks nice, but what is the commute to downtown like?
Also, any suggestions on where to look? Our priorities are as follows: good schools, commute time hopefully no more than around 45 minutes, and a home that has a yard big enough for the kids to play in/put in a pool etc.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

See: http://www.city-data.com/forum/dalla...kewood-10.html also search Lakewood,East Dallas, M-Streets on this forum.
There is no need to drive that far for good schools. Lakewood is getting pricey but you will make $30 - $40 grand per year in appreciation on your home plus save commuting costs. A new study shows commuting cuts your life short.

I think the Rockwall commute would be closer to 60 minutes, although you might have some 45 minute days in there and some 75 minute days. Summertime commutes tend to be faster.

My husband and I just visited the area and loved Rockwall. It is really beautiful and we liked the development called The Shores. Also good is Woodbridge in Fate, which is next to Rockwall and apparently has the same address if you do (or do not, -- not sure which it is) get mail delivered to your house. Beautiful new houses. That is where we will move, if we decide to go to the area.

Commute will run 45-60 minutes...depending on whether there's a wreck in the Canyons or on the Lake Ray Hubbard Bridge. There's ALWAYS a wreck.
Dallas is horrible about letting a wreck just set there and block traffic as opposed to other cities that get them out of the way. If you can slide your commute so you get in about 7 and leave early, no problems.
Welcome to Texas. It's hot in the summer, but nice most of the time.
