Anyone get re-valued?

I was rather surprised to see an average of 10% increase in valuation on my East Dallas properties.

I know the neighborhood is appreciating but I thought this might be an off - year for increases.

Mine went up yet AGAIN this year (had a revaluation done last year which I attributed to us having bought our house the prior year). This year's increase was 5%, and last year's was also 5%. I was completely surprised by this, and very irritated. This latest round puts my DCAD appraisal value about 4% less than what I paid for the house. I think this is highly unusual given that the vast majority of the houses on my street have not been revalued the same, and city appraisals in Texas in general are usually fairly lower than Market pricing (10-15%), not to mention the fact that home values have NOT gone up at those rates in the past 2 years. I live in the Lakewood Heights area that feeds into Stonewall.

Looks like the appraisal on the house we sold yesterday (yay!) in Carrollton has not changed at all. What are the chances of that happening? The appraisals for Denton county (where we live now) are not yet available.

Up here in Collin County, mine went DOWN by over $25K!

Truth be told, that's an accurate representation of the market in my neck of the woods over the last year.

I bought a property in October and DCAD appraised it $5K over my purchase price. Do you think I should protest it?

Can't really blame them for trying to raise tax revenues. Go protest it, values have definitely not gone up.

The appraisal for the house we bought in Collin County in October went up over 14% & is now about 6% less than what we paid. From looking at the records it doesn't look like our neighbor's appraisals went up anywhere near that much. Should I fight that & if so, what is the best tactic to win the battle?

TIA

My appraisal went up substantially. I thought there was supposed to be a 10% cap on valuation increases in the state of Texas and my husband and I are trying to find out if this is the case or not. We just bought the house in December and think perhaps the valuation re-sets when ownership changes hands, but again, we are trying to confirm.

Ours went down just over $22K. There were a couple homes in the neighborhood that sold at huge discounts over the last year. Sales prices have recently rebounded. Knock on wood, I can keep this lower appraisal for a few years. Saves me a few hundred bucks in taxes!!!
