The better question is how is it NOT foolish? Honestly, seems a little silly to even ask for anyone to elaborate. Not everyone can stay home with their kids for various reasons, and because they can't doesn't mean they don't deserve to have children. Thats silly. And I can think of better reasons for someone not to have kids than the fact they need a Nanny to chip in. Let's start with being stupid.

Obviously, I have a Nanny, which hopefully doesn't suggest I am such rich snoot who doesn't love, or want to take care of my kids. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Not everyone has that luxury of keeping someone home these days-and yes it's considered a luxury these days in my part of the world. Having a Nanny has been an absolutely wonderful experience for our family, we couldn't be happier with our experience with it.

And no one should make blanket statements like that and then run away without supporting a statement. So why don't you direct your question to them and see if their theory on Nannies and whether people should have kids can stand on two-legs.

I think you need to find a lifestyle that works for your family and your children. I was raised by two working parents and there were a lot of benefits to that kind of upbringing.

My best friend found a great nanny at Care.com. Her son has Asberger's and this lady is great with him. We were going to sitter share with her, but we wound up not doing it for various reasons.

Ha--definitely didn't expect that opinion to pop up. Bizarre. I'm all for staying at home--plan to do it someday and was raised that way myself. Sometimes it just isn't an option, though.

FWIW, Nanny, doesn't necessarily equal complete 24/7 care with little parental input a la The Nanny Diaries. I'm talking about an in-home alternative to daycare.

At any rate, thanks for the suggestions!
