Default Richardson ISD followers, did you see this?

We've talked about the Lake Highlands area of Dallas and we try to steer relocation folks to the better elementary schools over there because there are a couple in that area that aren't that great, right?

Well, did you see Stults Road Elementary's 2007 TAKS scores? Did you see they have an exemplary rating??

Richardson really ought to bottle and sell whatever it is they are doing over there. Here is a school with the following demographics:

Low income 77%
English Language Learners 34%
Caucasion 4.9%
African-American 45.1%
Hispanic 41.4%
Asian 8.4%

And their TAKS scores are amazing. The African American students got a perfect score on the Science test!! That's awesome. Last year only 80% passed it. (Course, I know it's a different group of kids.)

I have friends that live in the Stults Road neighborhood, but none felt like they could send their kids to that school. But who knows now?

As I understand it, you have to have EVERY subgroup (any demographic making up 5% or more i.e. White, Black, Mexican, Asian, Econ. Disadv.) passing the TAKS to receive an Exemplary rating. Therefore, the more homogenous a school, the higher the likelihood of achieving that coveted 'Exemplary' rating. A lot of schools come very close, but one group may miss by a point and they lose the Exemplary rating. It's a rather flawed scoring system, and not a real good indicator of the quality of the school, but that's just about all we have.

that is awesome for the school and most importantly the children

regardless of the flaws in the scoring system these children earned their marks... they deserve a huge hug and congratuations! You don't get exemplary because of flaws... you get them because you strive for excellence...even if they had received recognized this would of been wonderful in my eyes because they were striving for excellence.

Congrats to the students, parents, and teachers at this school.

Another plus for the Lake Highlands area is that the Richardson ISD is one of the few school districts in the DFW area to be rated "Recognized"...that's for the entire district and for the second year in a row. The number of exemplary campuses grew to 12 from the previous count of 8.
