are there any cities within 30 miles of dallas should we avoid? We are looking at a few homes for rent within a 30 mile radius of dallas and we're finding some pretty nice 3bedroom 2 bathrooms under $1000 a month. And since we cant see the neighborhoods online i figured we'll ask you guys.

When you find some places you are interested post links to them (but you can only use Find Real Estate Listings, School and Neighborhood Information and More - Realtor.com® on this forum because they sponsor City Data) and you will probably find members who are familiar with the neighborhoods the places are in. Most of DFW has awful, awful traffic. So, unless you will work from home its really important that the location you select is in a reasonable traffic pattern to work. So, where is your job?

As Squirl said, post the listings when you find them and we'll give you neighborhood feedback.

Word of caution- Dallas commutes in rush hour take about 2-3 minutes per mile (60-90 minutes for a 30 mile drive) if you're driving with the flow of traffic. If it's a reverse commute against traffic, figure 1 mile per minute.

It would really help if we knew where your job was.

That is a SMALL house (1400 sq ft) to be a 3-bedroom. Terrell schools are NOT good. They have a lot of gangs. The city itself is one of the least desireable outer-ring suburbs. My parents live not far from there, and while Terrell has grown, I wouldn't call it a desireable place to live. It will take about 1.25 hours to drive from Terrell to Dallas in traffic.

Better suburbs are Forney, Rockwall, Wylie, Sachse, Sunnyvale and anything else to the north, northeast and northwest. Avoid ALL suburbs to the southeast (Wilmer, Hutchins, Balch Springs, Seagoville, Rylie, Kleberg) and be careful about the area to the southwest.

It's kind of hard to answer your question. Some cities have great and bad neighborhoods all contained in within the same city limits. Are you looking for something rural or more of a outlining burb. More info please.

my husband will be going to UTI in irving, and he will be working at the mcdonalds at 125 South Denton Tap Road, Coppell, TX. My job would be anywhere close or nearby there. At the nearest nursing home i can get hired at.

You should look at a map both locations are within 10 miles of each other.
Terrell would be a 60 mile one way trip.
If you want a location within 30 miles. You may consider North to Denton or Northwest
to Azle/Northwest School District area. These areas are growing quickly but still have the
rural or suburbs that families are considering.
In addition; you should consider the travel time due to current gas prices fluctuating, traffic jams, construction, and other delays especially on days of foul weather.

You should look in Lewisville, Euless, Bedford or Hurst. They would be good locations for your husband. Even if rent is a bit higher you will save money because of the high car gas prices you would have to pay commuting from any area further out.
