Anyone familiar with Grande Communications?
I will be moving into a new apartment September 30. It appears if Grande Communications has some sort of contract/monopoly on the the phone and internet service. I was going to have my DirecTV transfered, but they complex charges a one time $250 fee, and you have to carry a minimum $25000 in renters insurance.
Has anyone here ever had Grande as their provider and what were your experience with the service, etc?

I used to live in an area where grande is my only option for phone and internet service. My experience with them is really no different than with verizon or other larger communication companies. Never had issues and customer service is ok.

I have Grande (they have the monopoly for Castle Hills), and I'll have to say they have the best customer service of any cable company I've ever dealt with. Every time they have given me a time window for service, they were here right at the beginning of the window. I called their service center to inquire about picking up extra set-top boxes, but didn't get a chance to pick them up - they came by on a Saturday (in the neighborhood, I guess) and did a full setup at no charge.

Not to bring you down but I am forced to use them and I would have dropped them about 5 times now if I had the choice.
That being said, service over the last 4-5 months has been better so maybe they are getting their act together.

Thats the part that concerns me. They seem to only offer service where then can be the exclusive provider and have no competition. Without competition they really don't have to price competitively or give a hoot about service.

I had them when I lived in the gables complex in West Village. They were fantastic. Really cheap and they did not require you to get a phone line for DSL. Customer service was always top notch and they never made me sign any contracts or anything. Only thing was they didnt offer HD in that area. I only had like two dsl outages in the 2 years I lived there and that lasted a couple of hours max. I really liked them.
