The post office closest to my house in Hurst normally has 1 person working the front desk--
you can hear someone in the back sorting mail or whatever--but when there is line of people that is growing--the front person never calls up someone else to work the front to handle the influx

last week I wanted in line over 10 min to pick up vacation mail hold--
I was the 4th person in line when I came in around 10:30 and there were 5 people in line behind be when I left--
the person at the counter when I came in took most of those 10 min

I have read many stories about the struggling US postal service system and frankly don't have lot of sympathy for them--I go to my local Fex Ex drop and rarely have to wait for service any time (except Christmas)...and have paid for priority mail through USPS and had it rerouted 3 days out of the way for no reason at all--and no appology either

I talked to some people at July 4th party and we were all complaining about the wait we have been through at our local/various post offices--
just wondered what the avg wait seemed to be for most people going to post office--

I never went to the post office when I lived in Dallas. The line was always ridiculously long and I can be very impatient. The post office near my home in Las Colinas is the complete opposite as I never wait in line more than a few minutes.

Waited over 20 mins the other day, but after work I assume everyone tries to get there before they close.

Well I think it was 30 minutes..then I got to the front and they actually CLOSED THE POST OFFICE. I was pissed. It was a Saturday and at the post office in Frisco, probably around 2004. That's when I started using the satellite ones, i.e., they might be out of a copy shop or something. I've rarely had to wait more than 5 minutes at one of those. I've used them in McKinney, Frisco, and Plano off and on since 2004.

In and out pretty quickly...under 5 minutes 90% of the time. More time than not, I run into somebody I know there...so if it is a bit longer than 5 min I don't mind, because get to spend the time "catching up"

Never more than 5 mins. Going to the post-office has always been a breeze.

I have to go to the post office pretty often for work, luckily it's only a short walk away. I normally wait 5 minutes or so, but if I walk in and see a line that will take me away from my work duties for too long, I will turn around and come back later. This usually happens during the lunch hour it seems. Oh, and the post office I use changed it's opening time to 10 am, so it's not as convenient to come in first thing in the morning.

My local post office, the North Garland branch is awful. I used to sell things on eBay and dreaded going to the post office. There was this surly middle aged women who was always there and always rude. She not there anymore, but they people they do have working are so slow its like they don't even try. I've seen a line out the door on one occasion and this want even the pre christmas rush. I would say average is about 15-20 minutes, it would take an act of god to be out in 5 or less.
