I've seen a lot of posts about the traffic problems in and around Dallas just wondering if there is a reliable public transportation system for Dallas and the surrounding suburbs. Let's say you work in Dallas but live in a close suburb. Is it realistic to commute to work by train to avoid driving in traffic or do most people drive everywhere?

Absolutely! Thousands, including myself, do it every day. DART rail is excellent and will see its track mileage almost double in the next few years.

The next new line opens in about 1 1/2 years and then more in 2-3 years. Long-range plans have just about the whole area covered, except for the suburb of Arlington which has rejected mass transit for more mercenary items.
