Default How much does rent cost in Dallas?

I am thinking of relocating to Dallas after I graduate and was wondering about the rent there.

How much does it cost for rent and utilities if I want to share a 2 bd/ 2baths in a safe neighborhood?

Safety is a big concern since I am a girl in a new city.

Thanks.

It's definitely going to depend on which area you are interested in. Have you nailed down a location in Dallas yet?

Default NO, I am in the research mode right now...

I am still in the research mode. There's still a lot of holes, because it would depend where my job is, etc.

What are some recommended safe areas in Dallas for a single girl? Thanks.

many of the nicer, newer developments run anywhere from 950 to 1500 for an apartment/townhome with garage... you can get one in the 800-900 range without garage, but then you are looking at possiblity of some less desirable neighbors...However, reality is you will find good and bad no matter if you pay 1500 or 800. It is just a matter of taking a look around and visiting the areas you may be interested in. Your heart will tell you what is right for you. Good luck. I know many teachers that live in some apartments around the Vista Ridge Mall in Lewisville, Texas. New complexes. Many of them are
1st year teachers so I imagine they are living on limited budgets until they get established.

In genreal, you can get a decent apartment for roughly $1/sq ft. per month. Some places ar ea bit higher, some a lower, but that's roughly what they cost for something decent.

I'd recommend first figuring out where your job is, and then decide what's important to you. The suburbs are more family oriented, while the city has some areas that are more geared towards singles.

Do you know which school district you're teaching for? I suppose your primary goal will be staying close to work. I'd say that you should be able to find something decent in nearly every area without more than 15 min commute.

Default Thanks for your help...

I guess I need to ask this question in June when I know where my job will be. BTW, I'm not a teacher, the previous poster mentioned her friend, who is a teacher, not me.

Thanks everyone, for your help.

I will come back with more questions when I have more info. Thanks again.

We paid $800 a month for a one bedroom, den, and one bath in a very nice area and community in Coppell. I think the rent is up now to $850 for that size. For two bedrooms and two baths I would say you are looking at least $900-$1000, possibly more depending on how big you want it.

If I were to ballpark a range based on the areas I've looked/lived, I'd say:

800 - 1 Bedroom
1,100 - 2 Bedroom
1400 - 3 Bedroom

Actually you can find much cheaper rents still in a nice area. I would though suggest to move to a nearby city instead because of the crime rate. Still in the news, you see more and more crimes committed. But I must say the police is everywhere trying to keep neighborhoods save. Roughly, you can find an apartment 2/2 for about $750-$900 and a 2/1 for $550-$700. Check the local free apt guides, they really help alot.

If I were you I'd be more concern about employment out here. Everything is pretty much through temp agencies and factory/fast food employment. Companies aren't very professional when returning a phone call for status when you apply. So bottom line, don't come on a tight budget. Also there is not much to do out here and there is no public transportation other than dallas. Choose wisely and good luck.
