Allen vs. Fairview/Lucas??
Can any locals in the area give me a quick rundown of these 2 cities.
Looking for larger house/1 acre lot w/trees - family neighborhood, good
elementary schools, nice town - small town is ok. Were coming from a
Midwestern town of 20K. Thanks!!

I would choose Allen.
I don't know about giving you a very good comparison of both places. For what it's worth, I would prefer Allen for the simple reason that I consider Fairview and Lucas to be too far out. But's that's just my preference. That may not bother you.

It's funny because you can have a lot right across the street from Fairview or Lucas and be in Allen...
But I hear the same thing from others about me being in Sachse. Even though my back yard is Murphy, and 1 mile down the road is Richardson, 1 mile the other way is Garland. But oh well...
Fairview and Lucas are gorgeous... and Allen from what I've seen seems to be dense and has a lot of alley homes.

Fairview and Lucas are really no further out than Allen. Especially when you consider that if you buy a home in Allen on the west side you are going to be dealing w/ a lot more traffic. I'm 7 miles from Parker here in NE Garland and literally only have to go thru 2 red lights depending on which way I go. Parker, Lucas, Fairview - all GREAT areas that are growing. They have always been a nice desireable area and have been seeing a lot of growth in the last few years and will continue to do so. If you like having more land than a normal postage stamp backyard then you won't be happy in the more "developed" areas of Allen. I LOVE the Fairview, Lucas & Parker areas and the small Lovejoy ISD is a VERY GOOD ONE to be in.

Momof2dfw---thanks for the info. I have seen some of your responses and you really know the area. I appreciate it so much! What are the neighborhoods in Allen you could recommend for nice house - large lot -
around 500K. Does Fairview have a town area? Are there sports programs
for kids to participate in? Im definitely not looking for small yard... just a nice
friendly community ...husband will be working in Frisco. I am looking at the
East side of Allen and Fairview...thanks.

Thanks.... blushing
Let me find out from a friend the name of a neighborhood in Fairview. She was telling me more of what was going on in it the other night as she had been there that day to visit a friend for the kiddo's to play. She was going on about how much it has changed even in the last year and it has. We have several friends in the Parker, Murphy, Lucas and Allen area and I'm more partial to the Parker, Lucas areas as it is more "rural" or "country" feeling. To get a good idea of what is going on up there don't put a maximum amount on realtor.com and check it out - WOW! I know all to well that if we did not have the HUGE yard we have for hubby to build another garage (that will make 5 ) he would be wanting to move in that vicinity to be able to build something like a 3000 sq ft garage. YIKES! The zipcode for Fairview is 75069, Lucas & Parker 75002. In Fairview try these neighborhoods: Fairview Farms, Summerhill Farms, Thompson Springs, Sycamore Place, River Oaks, Fairview Meadows.
I'll take this one FYI, what is on the master bedroom walls is not wood but a paint technique called "acid" something or other and is REALLY COOL looking. I've seen it done in several homes and it is really AWESOME. Do the whole photo tour, OMYGOSH!

I would choose Fairview. When we moved to Dallas we looked at all these areas you mention and I think you would like Fairview.
We moved from NY so in the end it felt too rural for us. But it is very beautiful. I also like Parker, but that would mean a longer commute to Frisco.

Fairview. The lots are large and many of them don't have fences, so it's wide open. Also, pick the part that maps to the Lovejoy school district (known for small class sizes). Homes tend to sell for more/faster than the side that maps to Mckinney ISD.
Allen feels like an extension of Central Plano. Smaller lots, more density in the schools, etc. Both are next to each other, so the commutes are similar.

Only in the much older homes built years ago or in the FAR east side there are a FEW. Otherwise, no.
