I am considering a job to the triangle area in NC. I am looking for some feedback from people who moved there and moved to DFW area. I prefer personal experience, no statistics please. Currently I live in the northern suburbs of Dallas. Are there similar places in the triangle with decent public schools? The job will be in the Research Triangle. How is the cost of living - I know there is state income tax there. Not into dining or cultural aspects much, they don't matter. How would you compare the people in these 2 areas? Is the climate better in NC, I heard it can be humid in summer.

Benn to both recently and about 5 years ago....considered there as well.Best way to describe the area....

- Many north east transplants, not as many people relocating from middle america/west coast. My impression of the metro was laid back, clean ,smart

- Raleigh is a mid size, safe city. The city of Raliegh has done a great job of preserving older buildings. The city area feels very southern. There are many parts of Raleigh that are like suburbs down here.

- State capital and most expensive area of North Carolina. Also the area that is the most educated (based on degrees ) in the country. It has topped many "best" lists,Forbes,Money etc

- Beautiful scenery ,can not beat location, about 2 hour drive to the coast.

- Much better weather than dfw. Think 4 seasons that are mild.

- Trader Joes & Fresh Market

Places to check out in the Raleigh are

- Cary and their dog park if you have dogs.Great park
- Raleigh down town
- The Chapel Hill area.Truly a beautiful college vibe town

When I lived in Boston then visited a friend in Raleigh, I so wanted to move there. It's really a great place. I can't add more than Crew did, but I'd give the triangle a big thumbs up from when I went there. Only issue I had was with road construction, but then again, what city doesn't?

I went to grad school in Chapel Hill and visit as often as I can. If I were to be offered a good-paying job there I would be torn as to what to do. I love it here but I love it there too. In my experience, cost of living a bit higher there overall but relatively easy access to gorgeous mountains and beaches. It's more humid in the summer there but usually not as hot. The humidity can make the hot days feel gross though. People are generally nice there but more of a to-your-face and not as real nice as I have found here. But they are in general still way nicer than people in MD and NJ were. Again in my experience.

As a native Carolinian....Stay in TX....I always wonder what draws people to NC..Go figure..Maybe I've been here too long....(BTW, trying to relocate to Arizona.......But having been to the DFW area....it's a great area/vibrant/Lots to do/and affordable.....Way, Way better than Raleigh.....Think long, think strong about your decision.....
