Wyatt's was in North Town Mall as was a movie theater. Oh, and Montgomery Wards w/ the cafeteria as well.
Yep, had a Camaro that I cruised Forest in. LOL!!!
OH, That is too funny. I gave him heck one time when he came up to me and a friend. Me - grandfather was a Bapt. preacher and grew up in church. My friend - his dad was a Bapt. preacher. Yes, I know PK's are bad Well, that cross dude walked up to us and said, "YOUR GOING TO HELL!" We both said, "no, we are not" and said why. Well, to him because we were CRUISING FOREST we were going straight to hell. He did not know many Bible versus when we got down to it and by the time my friend and I were done w/ him we had a HUGE CROWD and an instant following (not that I went out to cruise Forest to witness either). The guy left and not too happy either. That is funny, Jesus did not have a wheel on His cross. LOL!!! LOVE IT!

Yup, I cruised Forest in my Camero, too, in 79-80-81, but all I remember is driving up and down and up and down, drinking Boons Farm, and we yelled at boys driving next to us. We never stopped, never got out, never met anyone from (gasp) a different high school. That would have been like talking to a space alien.

We lived on Boone's Farm and Schlitz Malt Liquor. Actually, we drank whatever we could find, because we bought everything with our fake ID's or bummed it off of people. Schlitz Malt Liquor gave us more bang for the buck. That Boones Farm went down easy and came up HARD. To be young again...
Bet I was one of the boys you yelled at, because that's exactly when we were down there. I was the good looking one in the coolest car....
After cruising, we'd go down to the end of Forest to Emerald, and street race. Picked up a little extra drinking money on more than one occasion.

Speaking of Forest, I vaguely remember an airport that I think was on Forest, on the far east end around Garland maybe. It seems like it was near one of the early super stores like Medallion or something that my mom took me to when I was a little kid. I remember there was an old WW2 B-25 that sat there and rotted for years. I think it was painted light blue. Does anyone remember anything like that, or is my memory failing me?
How about Sun Rexall (sp?) on 75 in Richardson? You could get ANYTHING in that store. I used to enjoy just going in there and looking around.
Sorry to bounce around so much, but this thread is excellent, and I just love talking about these old places with all of you great guys and gals.

I remember there used to be a Dairy Queen at Coit and Arapaho. I went to JJ Pearce HS when there was only a cow pasture across the street and Renner was a little farm town.

Good ole days'
I remember the circle on Beltline & Coit, everyone shopped at Margos, Styles & Lily Dodsons in The Promanade. Stores like Robert Hall, Reynolds Penland, The Carriage Shop.
***Everyone used paper IDs and bar hopped at 16...went to bars like Bully & Wilsons, The Cave..dives along Greenville...Old Town.....HP Cassidy's, Elans!
We cruised Forest in mid 70s in my mothers' Buick Skylark & mooned everyone! I think the Tollway started at LBJ..when the Tollway was first built-the city had to advertise for the Public to use it. I'm jumping around subjects to -A.D.D?

Bowley and Wilson's was GREAT! Somebody told me recently that they thought they were still around; anybody know if that's true? Maybe making the rounds at Improv's?

Yes, there was an airport but it was on Northwest Hwy at Garland Ave not on Forest.
Remember the compound on Forest at Hillcrest for EDS.
OMYGOSH! I remember all of those shops. There was a Margo's in North Town Mall as well. LOVED that store. The Promanade was like a main shopping destination.

Reading through the previous posts made me remember the seedy bars along Greenville. As a kid, to go down town, we would turn down Greenville from Lovers Lane to get to Yale, to get on Central where you would get your own protected lane and not have to merge. (entrance #9 - I can't believe I remember that.) These bars were along a short section of Greenville on the east side, IIRC, between University and Yale. I remember the cave had a rock facade. When your 8 years old, it looked like a real creepy area.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe soccer fields occupy what is left of the airport's acreage. Sam's and Fry's occupy the rest, and maybe some car dealerships, as well. There were circular asphalt patches where people would fly their model airplanes.
