Do you remember "Pig Stand" next to the liquer store, where police would hang out and have lunch? And what was the club that was taken over by Blockbuster and Men's Warehouse?

"Bijoux" - I think U2 actually played there..or was it some other famous band -- I remember the first time I went in there they were playing this song with lyrics "Shtt, God-Damm" I thought I had landed in Gomorrah. Now that's par for the course with rap crap.

BTW that was the first Blockbuster ever...

Now - do you remember Caruso's, Rockyano's Pizza, The Abbey Inn and Sneaky Pete's?

The old spanish galleon became a night club of some sorts for a while.

Maybe you are right seems like I remember nets hanging in that place - was it some sort of interior store before it was Half-Price books? This is across from the Steak and Ale in the strip center behind the place that became the nasty-looking night club.

Being a good Baptist boy at the time, I wouldn't know. LOL

Oh yeah, they were the new kid in town, trying to get some of the 'Sound Warehouse" business.

Went to Caruso's and Rockyano's a lot. Always got that sicilian style. Caruso's was a good date place. Each boothe had doors that you could close off from the restaurant.

Wasn't the first Jack-in-the-Box in that shopping center, as well? Well, the first one i ever saw. and they even built them back then to look like a big Jack in the Box, back when Rodney Alan Rippey was doing the commercials. Remember the commercials that showed how fast you would get your order, with a fire enging going through, and the guy steering the back of the engine would grab the bag of food as they drove through?

Don't remember a Jack there- perhaps you are thinking of Griff's Hamburgers?

Yeah I was still a sort-of good Baptist Boy when I went into the Bijou - I think I had graduated from rum and coke to Tom Collins by that time (drinking age was 18). Check this out - just googled - GuideLive.com | Arts/Entertainment News and Events | Dallas-Fort Worth | The Dallas Morning News | Arts & Entertainment

Also there was another 'ship restaurant' at the old roundabout Circle at NW Highway and Harry Hines, anyone remember that?

Definitely JITB. I remember thinking how stupid that building looked with that big box with color splotches on it, looking like a Jack in the Box. This was early 70's.

Harry Hines, that was a too scary an area for me. There were hookers!!!!

When no one from Q102 showed up, George Gimarc, a jock from another now-defunct station, KZEW, got to introduce U2 as "one of the most promising bands from England," prompting a none-too-pleased Bono to reply, "We're from Ireland!"
I was in band at Lake Highlands with George Gimarc!

When someone asks me to dance I make sure I hold up my drink and say, "I can't, I'm a Baptist".

You know why Baptists don't make love standing up. It might lead to dancing.

Ah, the Bijou (did it have an x at the end?). Used to go there with my fake ID. Also liked the Roxy.

My very first job was at Caruso's (home of the singing waiters). I was a busboy/diswasher making minimum wage $2.65 hr . My dad would go next door to Sneaky Petes and have a beer if I was not ready go when he came to pick me up.
