I'm suprised no one has mentioned Sneaky Pete's or Bowley and Wilsons! No one remembers winning cigarettes at the State Fair though?

Oh, I remember Sneakey Pete's! Madcap Mollies too. You know, about the State Fair thing, I remember the coin toss and your quarter had to land on Lucky Strike packs painted on the wood. Didn't know you won cigarettes though. I was pretty young at the time so I didn't put two and two together.

Earlier in the thread there was discussion of tv commercial jingles. Has anyone heard the new Ft Worth National Bank commercials, and did it bring back old memories?

I remember going to the fair as a teenager in the late 60's and the Sugar Shack song was playing over and over by this building and all the kids would stand by the building and kiss their date.

Love this thread - just discovered it today, and realize it just had its first birthday. Happy birthday! There are lots of memories here.
I grew up in Richardson - RHS over 25 years ago. Geez!
At a younger age, we spent a lot of our time in Spanish Village - the Pizza place there was originally called Fargo's Express, then later was named Grand Junction Express. Fargo's Express was one of the first Pizza places that would deliver to our nearby home, so we loved it. As an 8-9 year old, I spent all of my allowance money in the Spanish Village Pharmacy with their huge (for the time) candy section.
My first job was in the Promenade Center on Coit Road at this restaurant named the Brittany. It was on the same stretch as Mr Gatti's, just further north. It had phones that you used to call in you order. (Just like Next Door, which I think was farther down by the movie theaters.) It changed formats some, then went out of business.
I later worked in Prestonwood Mall at the tobacco store that used to be in all malls. This one was called the Pipe Pub, then got bought out a couple times. It was on the second floor, near the food court. Still fondly remember the Paradise Bakery...
In those days, the liquor laws weren't quite so carefully enforced. A lot of us spent time down on Greenville Ave - The Chili's on Greenville was notoriously lax on Friday nights after football games. Also, there was this place called the Greenville Ave Bar and Grill that had this piano player and sax player on weekend nights. Great place for double dates.
Two or three times a year, someone would take two or three kegs out to some new construction area - essentially an empty field - and invite the whole school. Just like in the movie Dazed and Confused.
Anyone from that era remembers the ZOO and Q102 fondly. I could NOT make it through the morning without Rody and Labella (RIP). You can get the original KZEW stickers on EBAY...
Bought all our records at Sound Warehouse - though if we could, we'd make a trip to the Peaches at Cole and Fitzhugh. Only the original Peaches Crates were acceptable for holding a respectable LP collection.
By high school, everyone had put those huge "6 x 9" speakers in the rear of our cars, and had tape decks added in which we bought at Texas Stereo or someplace. That enabled us to drive down Belt Line Rd after school in our beat up cars playing Boston or Kansas extra loud.
I loved the summers - the Texxas Jam was mandatory (They used two X's so they could trademark the name.) Also, if we could afford it, was the road trip to So Padre. Only managed that once, it turns out...

HA! The ZEW morning show! I always liked when they did the "Walter From Waco" bit. Always cracked me up. I will have to look on Ebay for some ZEW stickers. Thanks for the info on that.
Man the Peaches crates. I forgot all about those! You're right...you had to have one!
I went to the 78, 79, and 83 Texxas Jams. Great times. On Styx's Greatest Hits album they actually had a big photo on the inner sleeve from the 83 Texxas Jam. I kid you not, I was able to pick out my girlfirend and I in the crowd. Very cool.

Ah yes, the Texas Jams. I went to two of them. 85 when Deep Purple headlined and 86 when Van Halen (Hagar) headlined. At the time I thought the laser show by Deep Purple when playing Perfect Strangers was the coolest thing I had ever seen.

No - but I proudly carried my Q-102 "Q-Card" which entitled me to valuable discounts in merchandise like LPs, haircuts, and the occasional cover charge.
Does anyone remember the Six Flags bumber stickers? I swear when I first went to Six Flags - probably around 1970 - you'd come out to the parking lot at the end of the day to find that every car had a Six Flags bumber sticker stuck on it. I tell people this and they think I'm crazy.
