I also remember playing on those HUGE planters by Neimans. Its funny because now those planters dont seem so big!
I would love to see those pics from the rainbow room too! I was too young to go in there when LLOVE was open.

Yep...they were shaped like Mickey Mouse. That's funny about the planters...I thought I was the only kid that slid down those things...hehe.
You guys remember the "John Bull Pub" inside North Park? I always wanted to go in there when I was a kid because I thought it looked cool, but my parents wouldn't take me in.

OMYGOSH!!! That is the one we ALWAYS went to.
Yes, they had the basket of curly fries (some of the BEST around). Order your food on the red phones, etc. LOVED going there. There are still some buildings around the Dallas area that look like they were once a Next Door Restaurant. One is in Garland on the corner of N. Garland Ave & Main St. It sits at an angle and has been a used car lot and a few other things.
Slid down the planters at NorthPark myself. EVERYONE DID IT!

Next Door Restaurant - Interesting Tidbit:
While looking for info on this once loved place I found this:
At the end of 1972 Pizza Hut made its long-anticipated offer of 410,000 shares of common stock to the public. The company expanded by purchasing three restaurant divisions: Taco Kid, Next Door, and the Flaming Steer.

I've come across a lot of restaurants around the country called "Next Door" so it may or may not be the same one.

Where was the Richardson location of Next Door? I think that was the one I went to. is the building still there?
Someone else mentioned Polar Bear Ice Cream, there was one in Plano but I think it was called Polar Bear Ashburn's or something similar. Loved going there. I think since then it has been (and still is) one or two different restaurants.

Was it a 70's hallucination?
Does anyone remember the Miramar Museum? It was on Maple past Oak Lawn. They charged a token admission, collected by an elderly grey-haired gentleman, the times I was there. You could also buy items. I remember buying several unique gifts for hard to shop for friends.
Anyone?

I don't remember that one but I remember Mother Blue's and the Texas Tea House - also the old Herrera's in the adobe and Woodlawn Hospital on Maple (now being redeveloped by Trammell Crow). There were a lot of funky shops in old Victorians near the Crescent behind S & D Oyster House over to the Quadrangle. Most of those houses are now gone.

Thanks for the reply Lakewooder. Perhaps someone else will remember the Miramar. You jogged some pleasant memories. I went Mother Blues fairly often, great venue for local bands. Wasn't there a clothing store in that location before Mother Blues? I believe the Herrera's you mentioned was the original location. They didn't have a liquor license, I remember we brought in our own beer.
Thinking about clothing stores, do you remember the Gazebo on the north end of McKinney? It was THE place for cool clothes at the time. Oh no, I just flashed back to platform shoes!!!! I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I had a pair or two

I always went to the one at the White Rock shopping center (Kingsley @ Audelia) I didn't know it was a chain.

Guilty as well. If I ran at it fast enough and leaped at just the right moment, I could almost get to the top of the planter and slide a pretty good distance, especially if they had just waxed the concrete floors.

fontexter, did you stop in at Lou's Liquors after going to the Gazebo? Had to go there for Sloe Gin. Maybe we were on the same dance floor at HP Cassiday's back in the day!
I can remember when Chateubriand was on the corner at the Crescent site (or was that Truluck's?). Miramar rings a bell but I think I am getting mixed up with something else - was it a really large white stucco prairie home with a big porch?
Anyone remember the annual Sale Street Fair? That seemed so sophisticated back then.
